Peter Jackson he is the director responsible for beauty Lord of the Rings trilogy of films, so some fans wondered if it would play a role in bringing the new series The Lord of the Rings: The rings of power to Amazon. The director didn’t believe it until he got a call from the studio asking him to consult on the show that is diving into second age tradition. He said he wouldn’t be able to provide any feedback until he read the script for the show, and after the scripts were promised, he never heard from the studio again.
In a recent interview with Scott Feinberg on The Hollywood Reporter ‘S. Chiacchiere awards podcast, Jackson explained:
“They asked me if I wanted to get involved – [writer-producer Fran Walsh] and I … and I said, “This is an impossible question to answer without seeing a script.” So they said, “As soon as we have the first two scripts, we’ll send them to you.” And the scripts never appeared. This is the last thing I heard, which is fine. No complaints “.
In a neighbor The business podcast, talk to The Hollywood Reporter ‘s Kim Masters, the director told the same story with a few more details, saying:
“About four, five years ago, they asked me if I was interested. So I said, ‘Do you already have the scripts?’ Because I know how difficult it was to write scripts for movies and I didn’t know the people who wrote their scripts. They said, “Oh no, we don’t have the scripts yet, but as soon as we have them, we’ll send you the scripts.” So I was waiting for the scripts to come and they never did. “
But as frank as Jackson tells the story, he doesn’t hold a grudge. He is still a fan and is excited to watch the series. He said in a statement:
“I will watch it. I’m not the kind of guy who craves bad will. Making movies is hard enough. If someone makes a good movie or TV show, that’s something to celebrate. The only thing I’m looking forward to is seeing him as a perfectly neutral spectator. ”
Jackson adds that Amazon is “betting the farm on Tolkien,” given its huge budget of half a billion dollars for the show’s debut season. Amazon Studios responded to Jackson’s comments with the following statement:
“In pursuing the rights to our show, we were obliged to keep the series distinct and separate from the films. We have the utmost respect for Peter Jackson and The Lord of the Rings movie and I’m thrilled that I can’t wait to watch it The rings of power. “
THR reports that the Power rings showrunner JD Payne And Patrick McKay they are huge fans of Jackson’s work and, as such, have “privately attempted to make openings to the director”. But they had to stick to the line, keeping the movies (which are owned by Warner Bros.) and the TV show separate. So maybe that’s why Jackson was ultimately kept away from the project.
The Lord of the Rings: The rings of power will premiere on Amazon on September 2.
