Last year, on Disney + day, it was announced that the streamer would be moving forward with a Marvel series titled Spider-Man: Freshman Year. We weren’t given any details on how that story would turn out, so we’ve only been speculating since then. Last month, it was filmed at San Diego Comic-Con during the Marvel animation panel and we have a few details to share.
Gizmodo explains: “Freshman year takes place before 2016 Captain America civil war, but with one notable fundamental difference. Rather than going home to her apartment to see Tony Stark in his house, it’s none other than Norman Osborn chatting to her Aunt May when she walks through the door. And just as meeting Tony pushed Peter into the spotlight bigger than the child needed, Peter, having Norman as a mentor, “sends his life into an unexpected trajectory that collides him with many unexpected characters in the Marvel universe, “according to Brad, the head of Marvel. Winterbaum.
The big hook on the new show is “What if … Norman Osborn was Peter Parker’s surrogate father?”, And that puts Pete on a collision course with characters the MCU hasn’t yet made a firm claim on. The SDCC footage showed Peter’s allies, from Norman’s son Harry to Amadeus Cho and Nico Minoru.
We still don’t know how Freshman year fits into the larger scheme of the Multiverse Saga, but I have a feeling we’ll start hearing more about the series as we approach its premiere in 2024. Are you looking forward to exploring this alternate Peter Parker timeline?
