Matteo McConaughey boarded a new film project titled Dallas Singwhich will be directed by Kari Skogland (Zebra lounge). The film is based on the true story of how a group of girls from Dallas high school traveled to China in 1984 as the latest underdog and beat some of the best women’s soccer teams in China, Australia and Italy.
McConaughey will play Bill Kinder, the coach “who led the disorganized group of Texas teenagers to a Rocky destiny. Long before the United States women’s national team achieved Olympic and world domination, the Dallas Sting arrived. This is a great inspirational story and it will become a great sports movie. It’s also a perfect project for McConaughey.
In 1984, “President Reagan made a concerted effort to open relations with China. China in turn invited America to send its US women’s soccer team to the first world championship they were holding for women’s football. There was only one problem: there was no United States women’s soccer team. A nationwide search led officials to a league of 19-and-under of Dallas high school girls named The Sting, from the recent Robert Redford-Paul Newman blockbuster. Led by Kinder, who had no previous experience as a football manager before forming the team, the story of how this passionate group of young women came to China has been a miracle. And what they did against the best women’s teams in the world from China, Australia and Italy – made up of adult women who have played together for years – was nothing short of a miracle ”.
To form the team nearly 40 years ago, “Kinder had to receive a note from a gynecologist stating that playing football would not damage a woman’s reproductive organs. Texas parents who imagined their daughters waving pompoms at intermission soon became the cheerleaders of this eclectic mix of precision-trained girls by a Lombardi-like trainer, and they became a local powerhouse. They then went through the red tape just to be able to make the journey and lived up to the occasion despite being underdogs against the dominant international teams. All of this led by a coach who believed so much in The Sting that he charged $ 85,000 on his credit cards for non-refundable tickets to make sure the team arrived in China, where many were expecting to lose badly. Listen to Rocky themed music.
The script comes from Liz Flahive And Carly Mensch (INCANDESCENCE) and production will begin this fall in New Orleans.
