Netflix’s new comic book adaptation based on Neil Gaiman’s acclaimed novel is coming soon. And before some fans of the original story doubt, a strong and brutal scene from “The Sandman” revealed at SDCC confirms that there will be explosive and violent moments.

And is that, in ‘The man of sand’ there are strong moments, of explicit and graphic violence, as well as other sequences that could lead the streaming platform to impose some censorship to reach a wider audience. Since, in the past, Netflix has refused to release David Cronenberg’s new film with Kristen Stewart, “Crimes of the Future” for its explicit sequences.

However, SDCC participants were able to confirm this Netflix hasn’t censored ‘The man of sand’, with a brutal scene that remains exclusive for the moment, which is described as a violent and explicit sequence in which Johanna Constantine (Jenna Coleman) and Dream (Tom Sturridge) meet a couple about to get married.

In the violent scene there is the presentation of Azazel, the demon who helps Lucifer, played on this occasion by Gwendoline Christie of “Game of Thrones”, and who tries to solve the problem of Morpheus and his awakening. In this regard, Neil Gaiman talked about how he managed to convince Netflix to accept this degree of violence in the series.

“Nobody tried to change what I did. Since I pitched the idea to DC Comics, it was respected, the same (with Netflix) at the time of the adaptation. Nothing has been changed. They just wanted to see the real Sandman. We already had it in an audiobook, so it just had to be transferred to television for people to believe in this story. I can tell you this series is for beginners and fans who have followed the story since its release, ”said Neil Gaiman.

It will be August 5 when “The Sandman” will premiere through the Netflix platform, with its 10 episodes starring Tom Sturridge as Dream or Morpheus, along with Gwendoline Christie, Jenna Coleman, Kirby Howell Boyd Holbrook, Mark Hamill, among many others.
