Jon Favreau called the Russo Bros. and argued against killing Iron Man in ENDGAME

It was a devastating moment Avengers: End of the game when Robert Downey Junior. ‘s Tony Stark sacrificed himself to save the world. Despite there being a lot of rumors and speculation about Iron Man’s death, no one really wanted to see him die! It was the cornerstone of the MCU! It’s still sad that he’s gone and we may never see him again.

Well, it turns out that Iron man director Jon Favreau actually called the F.lli Russo after reading the script for End of the game and opposed the killing of Iron Man. He did not want Iron Man to be killed! In a recent interview with Vanity Fair Joe Russo talked about that experience saying:

“It’s probably the highest pressure we’ve ever had in trying to find a line [screenwriters Christopher] Marco and [Stephen] McFeely in one of these films. You don’t want to ruin Tony Stark’s last line. ”

Antonio Russo added: “Part of the pressure came from Jon Favreau, who called us after reading the script and said, ‘Do you really kill Iron Man?'” Joe recalled “walking to the corner of a stage on the phone with Favreau trying to dissuade him from a ledge. ”

It seems that Favreau was quite upset by this decision. Joe said, “He said to me, ‘You can’t do this, it will devastate people. You don’t want them to come out of the theater and into traffic. We did it anyway.” Anthony added, “We did it anyway, and to Jon’s credit, he didn’t go through the process the way we did,” and noted that he and his brother “would have had the same reaction” if not. the two had made direct Avengers movie.

Joe explained that they felt they “earned the arc that would be redemptive, emotional, uplifting and hopeful, even if [Stark] he had sacrificed his life “.

The directorial duo then talked about how Stark’s punchline “I am Iron Man” was born. Downey Jr. improvised a few lines for that scene, some of which were “super smart” including “Oh, snap” and an F-bomb thrown at Thanos.

Nothing worked because Downey Jr. “wasn’t playing it with enough pain for the power of [Infinity] Stones rising through his body, ”so they would initially use a version where Stark said nothing. Then their editor, Jeff Ford, invented the “I am Iron Man” line.

Anthony said, “Our editor, Jeff Ford, who is one of the most amazing directors we’ve ever worked with, edited the first Iron man movie. So he had been traveling with the character since the original directed by Jon Favreau Iron man. Joe added, “He hit play and Thanos says, ‘I’m inevitable.’ Beat, beat, beat. And Jeff said, “I’m Iron Man.” We were like, “Stop it! What did you just say ?! “We called Downey and said, ‘You need to put your suit back on.'”

In the end it went great, but it still sucks Iron man is dead!
