A few weeks ago Taron Egerton revealed that he had been in talks with Marvel Studio, at the time it made it seem like he was in talks with them about the possibility of playing Wolverine. Well, in a recent interview with the Happy Sad Confused podcast has clarified a few things.
He explained that the meeting took place four years ago, did not involve the Wolverine character, and hasn’t heard from Marvel since. Here is the direct quote from him when asked:
“So the reality is there’s been a lot of fancast about it. I attended a general reunion with Kevin about four years ago, where I said I love movies, I’d love to do something, and he said it would be. Great if we could find something. I left and haven’t talked to him since. I check my emails every five minutes. There was a character I mentioned in that meeting, but it wasn’t that, so this one. puts it in perspective There is no reality.
Taron seems capable of playing the role of Wolverine, but I’d love to see Marvel go with a stranger. This is something that Deadpool 3 screenwriter Rhett Reesepreviously said:
“Honestly I would go more … an unknown person, because Hugh Jackman was reasonably unknown the first time around and I think there was an initial setback [of], ‘Oh, he’s too tall’ or, ‘He doesn’t look good’ or, ‘What is this Australian thing?’ I think if they’re playing their cards right, they should probably do some we’ve never seen. “
Who knows what Marvel is thinking, though. We don’t have any information on what they will do with the X-Men characters, but mutant DNA was introduced into the MCU thanks to Lady Marvel. They have a lot of time on what to build on that. I’m not a fan of how this was introduced, but maybe the creative team has a clever way of building it. We just have to wait and see.
What do you think? How would you like to see Wolverine introduced to the MCU?
I spoke to @TaronEgerton who set the record straight about those WOLVERINE rumors. Short version: Nothing is happening … yet.
But I surprised him with a huge approval of that casting from @Russo_Fratelli
