Sébastien Haller is going through a complicated time. On July 18, Borussia Dormtund announced that the striker is suffering from a tumor in his testicles. The Franco-Ivorian had to abandon his teammates to join a private medical center. The 28-year-old broke the news by sharing a photo of him lying in his hospital bed on July 21: “Good evening everyone, just wanted to let you know that step 1 is complete! I want to thank Borussia Dortmund and the medical team who were exceptional with me. I would also like to thank all the nurses of the hospital for their support and kindness.“
On Wednesday, July 27, Borussia Dortmund sporting director Sebastian Kehl broke the news of Sébastien Haller at a press conference. The German leader then shared an estimate of the length of time his attacker was out of reach, who was operated on for testicular cancer: “Therapy is currently being discussed. There are several options. Sébastien won’t be here for a few months, but we’ll let you know when we can talk more about this. He is on the right track.“
Coming from Ajax Amsterdam this summer for 31m euros, Sébastien Haller has joined Borussia Dortmund specifically to fill Erling Haaland’s departure to Manchester City. Due to the long absence of the striker, Sebastien Kehl does not exclude the possibility of acquiring another striker before the end of the transfer window: “We are preparing for different scenarios, we have been doing it for a few days. We are working on different options. Nothing is concrete right now.“
