Lucasfilm announced it Amanda Stenberg was officially cast for the lead role in his upcoming live-action Star Wars Disney + series The Acolyte. At one point we heard that the actress was in the running to join, but now it’s set in stone.
The series is described as “a mysterious thriller that will take viewers to a galaxy of dark secrets and dark side powers emerging in the last days of the High Republic era.” The High Republic is set 200 years before the start of the Skywalker Saga. So far this era has only been explored in a series of books and comics. It is the golden age of the Jedi, when the Jedi were strongest and it was believed that the Sith had been eradicated from the galaxy.
It was also previously explained that the show “specifically explores the rise of the Dark Side in those last days of the High Republic era. The Acolyte has the opportunity to explore the dark side in a way the franchise has never seen on screen before. “
An acolyte in the Star Wars universe refers to “a Sith who has just begun his training under an experienced Sith Lord”. Also, to give you a little context, the era of the High Republic is said to have ended about 50 years before the events of The threat of the Phantom. The series is also rumored to explore some of the Sith’s main characters Star Wars Legends.
The show was developed by showrunners Leslye headland (Russian doll), and previously revealed that the series was heavily inspired by Star Wars: The Phantom Menacesaid:
“What I can say is that the reason it attracted me personally is that I was 18 when phantom threat came out and I was a huge Star Wars fan. I remain a huge Star Wars fan, but at that particular moment, right after the re-releases and the fact that I was in high school, it’s just that it all coincided at a time when I was discovering who I was sexually, I was discovering who I was artistically, I was making what I wanted to do with my life, and then this great, huge cinematic event, cultural event that was The threat of the Phantom. And I know there have been different reactions. And of course, there were a lot of people who had grown up with the original trilogy who were disappointed.
“But I was actually very intrigued as to why George Lucas started us at that particular spot. I was wondering, but what happened to this? It’s kind of where my Star Wars fan brain went like , “How did we come here? And why are the Jedi like that?” When they are in power, why do they behave this way and how is it that they are not having the reaction you would think they would have in the presence of Anakin and what Qui-Gon Jinn is saying about how passionately he feels about training him and taking him to the It’s like, even the discovery of Darth Maul is met with this kind of feeling like “Hm, interesting.” So I just think that for me, my brain has always been buzzing in that area and I was wondering what it was is going on here – or what’s going on here ”.
There is no information about the character Stenberg will play in the series, but she is a wonderful young actress who has appeared in films such as The hunger games,The Hate U Give, The Darkest Minds, Everything, EverythingAnd Dear Evan Hansen. Speaking earlier about the series, he said:
“We are taking a look at the political, personal and spiritual things that have emerged at a time we don’t know much about. My question when watching “The Phantom Menace” was always like, “Well, how did things get to this point?” How did we get to the point where a Sith lord can infiltrate the Senate and none of the Jedi notices? Like, what went wrong? What are the scenarios that have led us to this moment? “
I am very curious about the setting of this series because it is set in such a different era Star Wars which hasn’t really been explored before. I just hope it turns out to be a good quality series.
