What happened to “Armor Wars”, the X-Men and Spider-Man? The absences of the Marvel Comic-Con panel

Marvel Studios have left us absolutely exhausted by the amount of news they announced during their panel at Comic-Con, which covered up to Phase 6 of their cinematic universe. ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’ will conclude the already official Multiverse Saga in 2025but first we have many movies and series in front of the superheroes of the House of Ideas.

What happened to “Armor Wars”, the X-Men and Spider-Man? The absences of the Marvel Comic-Con panel

Despite so much surprise, some absences did not go unnoticed in the presentation by Kevin Feige, president of Marvel Studios. One of them was “Armor Wars”, a series for Disney + which would play Don Cheadle as James Rhodes. Despite being previously announced by Marvel, he did not appear on the release schedule shown at Comic-Con, nor was he mentioned by Feige. However, Yassir Lester, head writer, updated his Instagram a few hours after the panel with a short message about his Stories which read: “I promise to carry on”. It doesn’t mention “Armor Wars”, but it totally sounds like an answer to fans’ doubts. Maybe we’ll get news of the War Machine series at D23 Expo in September? Rhodie has been confirmed as part of ‘Secret Invasion’, the Nick Fury series that we will see in the spring of 2023.

Another of the rumors that turned out to be untrue was the alleged announcement of the first UCM project that would feature the X-Men, or “The Mutants”, as he had ventured that the film or series would be titled. Mutants have not appeared on the Marvel panel or in the MCU’s short-term plans, although there are still untitled Phase 5 and 6 dates on the calendar. Kevin Feige didn’t want to say anything either, and when he was later interviewed by Comic Book, who joked if we had to wait for Phase 10 to see the mutants, the Marvel Studios boss followed suit, without saying anything new: “Want to wait for Phase 10 for the X-Men? Okay, that’s a lot more than I want to expect, but you yourself”. At least we already know that the mutants will land in the UCM between Phases 5 and 9 … And we always have the revival of the animated series, which has already been renewed!

Shared trust

The last one who captured the doubts of the fans was Spider-Man. Ever since we left Tom Holland’s Peter Parker starting to rebuild his life in his small apartment after the events of “Spider-Man: No Way Home”, we can’t wait to know when we’ll see him again. The problem is that Spidey is still within the peculiar collaboration agreement between Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures, and it is more up to the latter to decide when a fourth installment of Spider-Man will be launched. With Jon Watts walking away from the “Fantastic Four” to take a break from superheroes, and even Tom Holland cutting down on his workload, he may not be in the floors closest to him. About Spidey Kevin Feige he just said than the character “will be part of the heroes on the street” like Daredevil. A new stage in its own right that perhaps allows us to collaborate with Matt Murdock to clean up the streets of New York of criminals. Considering that Charlie Cox’s character will not only have his own series in the MCU, but will also appear in “She-Hulk: Lawyer She-Hulk” and “Echo”, Marvel clearly has big plans for the lawyer. As for Spider-Man, we’ll have to wait for Sony to make a decision.

Let’s not forget other characters who have already announced their return, such as Shang-Chi, the Ten Rings or Thor. The announcement of the Multiverse Saga at Comic-Con clears up many doubts, but there are still surprises along the way, for sure. The next appointments with Marvel will be “She-Hulk” on August 17 on Disney + and “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” on November 11 in theaters.
