After the failed attempt to quash Johnny Depp’s libel trial, Amber Heard and her lawyers have decided to officially appeal the sentence that forces the actress to pay more than ten million dollars to her ex-husband.
Heard’s attorney filed an appeal against the highly publicized trial ruling in Fairfax County Circuit Court on Thursday, July 21. “We believe the court made mistakes that prevented a fair and consistent verdict. Therefore, we appeal the verdict”. Additionally, on behalf of the ‘Aquaman’ star, the lawyer acknowledged that he is aware of the hype this appeal will generate: “While we are aware that today’s presentation will ignite the fire of Twitter, there are steps we need to take to ensure fairness and justice.”.
Separately, a spokesperson for Depp released a statement stating the following: “The jury listened to numerous evidence presented during the six-week trial and reached a clear and unanimous verdict that the defendant herself defamed Mr. Depp on multiple occasions. We remain confident in our case and that this verdict will not change.”.
Heard appeals to everything
In the aforementioned appeal filed by the plaintiff’s lawyers, particular reference is made to the fact that Heard challenges the aforementioned verdict, as well as all decisions made by the judge since that moment. These include the rejection of the request for cancellation of the trial, as well as the dismissal of the case or the request to keep a new one.
