I’ve enjoyed everything I’ve seen from the upcoming Amazon Prime Video series so far The Lord of the Rings: The rings of power. The series looks great and I just hope the stories told are as impressive as the images.

Showrunner JD Payne And Patrick McKay they’ve been working on developing this show for a while now and it turns out they’ve had some help JRR Tolkiengrandson, Simon Tolkien. He was a consultant on the film and in a recent interview with Weekly entertainmentMcKay talked about his involvement and how he helped shape the show’s story and character arc development:

“The first time we met Simon Tolkien, we had to pinch ourselves – here we are, sitting across the table from JRR Tolkien’s nephew himself. And that was just the beginning of what turned out to be a extremely enriching and rewarding dialogue. His insights, attention to detail and passion for both the characters and the general architecture of The rings of power they are woven into the pages of our history. Working with Simon was the experience of a lifetime. “

Tolkien also had a lot of fun working on the series saying, “I enjoyed assisting Amazon Studios in relation to the series, and in particular providing input to JD Payne and Patrick McKay on issues including my grandfather’s original writing.”

Before becoming a professional writer, Simon Tolkien worked as a London lawyer, specializing in criminal defense. For the past 20 years he has published books including No man’s land, orders from Berlin, And The King of Diamonds.

The story for The rings of power is set during the Second Age, which is set thousands of years before the events The Lord of the Rings And The Hobbit. Tolkien recounted the Second Age in the appendices a The Lord of the Rings, and explore stories such as Sauron’s first rise to power and the original forging of the One Ring. McKay said:

“We weren’t interested in doing a show about the younger version of the same world that you knew, where it’s a bit of a prequel. We wanted to go far, far, far back and find a story that could exist on its own feet. This was one that we felt it hadn’t been said at the level and scale and with the depth we felt deserved. “

The Lord of the Rings: The rings of power “Is set thousands of years before the events of JRR Tolkien The Hobbit And The Lord of the Rings, and will take viewers back to an era where great powers were forged, kingdoms rose to glory and fell to ruin, unlikely heroes were tested, hope hung by the thinnest threads and the greatest villain to ever come out of the pen by Tolkien threatened to cover the whole world in darkness. Begun in a period of relative peace, the series follows an ensemble cast of characters, both familiar and new, as they face the much-feared resurgence of evil in Middle-earth. From the darkest depths of the Misty Mountains, to the majestic forests of the elven capital Lindon, to the breathtaking island kingdom of Númenor, to the farthest reaches of the map, these kingdoms and characters carve out legacies that will survive long after they’re gone. “

The series will debut on Prime Video on September 2, 2022.
