Last May we learned that Hayao Miyazaki’s masterpiece “Princess Mononoke” would be re-released in Spanish theaters on July 22 by Vertigo Films, coinciding with the 25th anniversary of its premiere in 1997. Now, the distributor has announced all Spanish cinemas where the Studio Ghibli film can be seen.

This studio, created by Miyazaki, Isao Takahata and Toshio Suzuki in 1985, has cult works of Japanese animation cinema to its credit, such as “My Neighbor Totoro”, “The Tomb of the Fireflies”, “Chihiro’s Journey” or ‘Porco Rosso’, just to name a few. For its part, “Princess Mononoke” had a grand opening at the Japanese box office, quickly becoming the highest grossing of the entire year. Outside its borders, it had a discreet preview in the United States, when it was bought by Miramax, due to the restrictions due to the classification for people over the age of 13. Despite this, it is considered by all to be one of the best animated films of all time.
“Mononoke” travels to feudal Japan, where Ashitaka, a young warrior trying to defend his people from a furious boar god, is injured after a confrontation with the aforementioned monster. With a deadly curse behind him, Ashitaka goes to the Great Forest to ask for help from San (Princess Mononoke), the girl raised by wolves.. They will soon find themselves in the midst of a merciless war between humans who exploit natural resources and the inhabitants of the forest.
Vertigo Films with the physical format
It accompanies the relaunch of ‘Mononoke’ in theaters a run of Studio Ghibli films unreleased in Spain by Vertigo Films. Among these are ‘The Poppy Hill’ (2011), available for a few months; ‘Memories of yesterday’ (1991), released last June; or “I can listen the sea” (1993), released a couple of weeks ago. All in Blu-Ray format.
