The Spanish box office continues above 6 million euros thanks to the continuous trickle of great releases for the summer season. Despite losing nearly a million euros compared to last weekend, which featured the arrival of Thor and the second season of the Minions, Santiago Segura’s new family comedy has continued at a good pace. More than 930,000 spectators escaped the heat wave in a movie theater, Comscore reports.

‘Father there is no more than a 3’ concluded the brief reign of the Asgard in the cinemas of our country, finally debuting with 2.41 million euros and a magnificent average of 5,376 euros per theater in the largest post-pandemic review (449 rooms). Finally, it surpasses ‘Superlópez’, which debuted with € 2.3 million in 2018, becoming the best Spanish cinema premiere since ‘A monster comes to see me’ in 2016. It enhances the debuts of the two previous installments of the García family trilogy and makes the eighth best premiere of the year in Spain. The total, including the Thursday box office, is € 3.14 million. A great start to what is meant to be one of the most popular films of the summer.
Even Thor was unable to do this with the incombustible energy of the Minions, who managed to stay in second position. “Minions: The Rise of Gru” adds € 1.37 million to an impressive total of € 12.58 million in just three weeks. It is already the third highest-grossing film of the year and with the strength it is having, it is very likely that it will continue to climb the charts. But the € 24 million that ‘The Minions’ earned in 2015 is still a long way off.
“Thor: Love and Thunder” drops from first to third position, and does so with a significantly lower collection of 61% compared to the weekend of its premiere. Add € 1.35 million to a total of € 6.78 million. The average per cinema is still high (€ 3,880), so we will see how it will hold up in the coming days.
“Jurassic World: Dominion” drops to fourth place but strengthens its leadership as the highest-grossing film of the year (until the Minions knock on its door) reaching a total of 16 million euros. It adds 308,386 euros and its average drops below a thousand euros per cinema.
Elvis and Tom Cruise resist
“Elvis” holds up very well in its fourth week in theaters, down only 17%. Add € 227,636 to a total of € 2.65 million. There also remains ‘Top Gun: Maverick’, which drops by only 12% and reaches 8.7 million euros in total.
The rest of the week’s previews went unnoticed, being the second strongest “Between life and death”. Antonio de la Torre’s film ranks ninth but grossed less than € 50,000 in its first weekend.
This Friday we will be back a flurry of news in the halls. The Spaniards ‘A Boyfriend for My Wife’ and ‘HollyBlood’, ‘The Memory of a Murderer’ with Liam Neeson, ‘Men’ by Alex Garland and the revival of Studio Ghibli’s ‘Princess Mononoke’ stand out.
