About two weeks ago, Roll20 and OneBookShelf announced that they would join forces. This would mark official support for elements from sites like DriveThru RPG and DMs Guild in the popular virtual tabletop (VTT). Today is the day of Unity! The two companies are forming a joint venture. The combined power will take some time to be fully effective, but be aware that in the coming weeks Roll20 will add PDF support so that you can upload, read, share and play using any PDF you want in the VTT. This is great news in and of itself, but there’s more. Eventually, the joint venture will have OneBookShelf PDF libraries accessible within Roll20 for a more enjoyable customer experience, and those PDFs won’t count towards your Roll20 storage quotas! This is absolutely fantastic and I am looking forward to this better integration. Adding unofficial supplements to RPG campaigns will be much more enjoyable and hopefully more common with this one.
Speaking of the opportunity, the CEO of Roll20 Ankit Lal She said:
Joining forces with OneBookShelf creates the best place to shop, browse and play TTRPGs online, period. Since 2012, Roll20 has been the industry leader in virtual board games, hosting content from some of the biggest publishers in the space, including Wizards of the Coast, Paizo and Chaosium. With this agreement, we are making significant progress on many of our user promises that greatly improve VTT and will work together to continue adding exciting new features to our already industry-leading platform.
Stephan WieckOneBookShelf CEO added:
Our mission from the beginning has always been to make it easier for publishers and creators to reach a wider audience of RPG fans. By joining forces with Roll20, we enable game producers to present content in a wider variety of formats, be it character creators, virtual tables, digital or print editions. Customers will be able to support their favorite games, in any format they want, with a cheap purchase, and will be able to use their content on the most trusted RPG platform.
Following this agreement, Wieck will join Roll20’s board of directors and executive team while Lal will continue as CEO. Are you excited about this development?
