‘Stranger Things’: Metallica duet ‘Master of Puppets’ with Eddie Munson

Music is a fundamental aspect of “Stranger Things” and its fourth season would not have been outdone. As happened with Limahl’s “Never Ending Story” (which immortalized “The Neverending Story”) in the third season, in this fourth installment both Kate Bush and Metallica have benefited from the fact that their music appears in the series (and not in the moments of little importance, in fact) since two of his songs have catapulted to the top of the charts of various countries. On the singer’s side, “Running Up That Hill” helps Max (Sadie Sink) ward off Vecna, while ‘Master of Puppets’, by the heavy metal group, plays during the final chapter of the season, with Eddie Munson (Joseph Quinn) at the controls of the guitar to attract the attention of the bats in Upside Down.

After declaring himself a fan of the series, Metallica shared via their official TikTok account a duet in which they played the song at the same time Eddie is on stage, making a parallel montage. The group thus pays tribute to an already iconic scene, which takes a step forward as all the band members wear the same t-shirt as the Hellfire Club, the Dungeons and Dragons club to which most of the teenage protagonists belong, to which the character of Quinn belongs is wearing in said sequence. “This is for you, Eddie!”the video is titled.

As is also happening with Bush’s song, ‘Master of Puppets’, a single released in 1986 that runs for nearly 9 minutes, has climbed ranks on music platforms since Season 4 volume 2 was released on July 1. It has crept into the top 10 of iTunes’ global sales list, while on Spotify it is also making a statement. “‘Master of Puppets’ is a pretty significant song in their catalog and I think it’s considered one of their concert favorites. I wanted to be respectful and make sure Metallica fully understood the context in which we were going to use the song, as well as how fundamental that scene would be, especially for this new character, Eddie Munson.that no one had known in previous seasons ““Stranger Things” music supervisor Nora Felder told Variety.

How it was done

When asked by Matt Duffer and Ross Duffer if he could play the guitar, Quinn emphatically agreed and, after reading the scene in question and realizing its importance, rushed to buy a guitar to practice. Playing Metallica at a key moment in “Stranger Things” doesn’t happen every day, so the actor was determined to try until it turned out perfect. Last 10 July the Twitter account of the writers of the series has posted a video in which Quinn can be seen practicing. The social network, of course, exploded.

“I was overwhelmed by the inventiveness of the whole scene and the brilliance in carrying it out. I don’t think there are many worlds where a Metallica concert didn’t sound as ridiculous as a crescendo in a season. It looks totally earned and it looks silly, but it also feels right and inspired and I’m so lucky to have been a part of it.”recalled the actor.
