Parasite director Bong Joon-ho developed his next film adaptation of the science fiction thriller novel Mickey Mouse7And Steven Yeun (The walking dead) just joined the cast. The two have previously worked together on the Netflix movie Okja.
Yeun joins Robert Pattinson, Toni Collette, Marco Ruffalò And Noemi Ackie in the film, which is described as a “science fiction thriller”. The book was written by Edward Ashton, and here is the synopsis that gives us details about the story:
The Martian meets Dark Matter in Edward Ashton’s sci-fi thriller, in which Mickey7, an “expendable”, refuses to let his replacement clone Mickey8 take his place.
Dying isn’t fun … but at least it’s a life.
Mickey7 is a mercenary: a disposable employee on a human expedition sent to colonize the ice world of Niflheim. Whenever there is a mission that is too dangerous, even suicidal, the crew turns to Mickey Mouse. After an iteration dies, a new body is regenerated with most of its memories intact. After six deaths, Mickey7 understands the terms of his deal … and why it was the only unoccupied colonial position when he took it.
On a fairly routine exploration mission, Mickey7 disappears and is presumed dead. When he returns to the colony base, surprisingly aided by his native life, Mickey’s fate has been sealed. There is a new clone, Mickey8, reporting for Expendable tasks. The idea of duplicate supplies is universally loathed and, if caught, they will likely be thrown into the protein recycler.
Mickey7 must keep his double secret from the rest of the colony. Meanwhile, life in Niflheim is getting worse. The atmosphere is not suitable for humans, food is scarce, and terraforming is going badly. Native species are becoming curious about their new neighbors, and this curiosity has greatly frightened Commander Marshall. Ultimately, the survival of both life forms will depend on Mickey7.
That is, if he can keep himself from dying forever.
I’m thrilled to see how Joon-ho brings this story to life. The guy is an incredibly talented director and will make another great movie. I’m also happy to see Yeun get a role in the long-awaited big project!
