James Cameron worked on his own Avatar sequel for over a decade, and doesn’t want to hear any of our complaints about its length. The first film, released in 2009, had a running time of 2 hours and 42 minutes. This isn’t all that unusual now, in a world where superhero epics are regularly about that long, but they seemed long at the time.
Cameron has already said he believes Avatar: The way of water will mark in about three hours and has none of the anticipated hour complaints. In a recent interview with Empire, Cameron said:
“I don’t want anyone complaining about the length when they sit down and binge [television] for eight hours … I can almost write this part of the review. ‘The agonizing three-hour movie …’ It’s like, give me a break. I’ve seen my kids sit down and do five one-hour episodes in a row. “
I mean, when Stranger things, The Umbrella AcademyAnd Cobra Kai go back, I always watch the last season in about two sessions, so this topic makes sense. But the opposite argument is that when I binge, it’s from home. I can press pause and take breaks. But to this, Cameron says:
“Here’s the big social paradigm shift that has to happen: it’s okay to get up and go pee.”
Maybe he should follow in the footsteps of Avengers: End of the game and have a bathroom break guide for fans to follow. Avatar: The way of water it should finally be released in theaters on December 16, 2022.
