Thanks to Empire we have a first look Stefano Langthe character of Avatar: The way of water along with some new details. Lang is back in the role of villain Miles Quaritch, the barbaric military commander of the Resources Development Administration. Yes, his character was apparently killed in the first film by a couple of giant arrows, but he’s back and, according to Lang, “he’s bigger, he’s bluer, he’s pissed off.” The actor went on to say:
“But there may be an aspect of humility. When you take two Na’vi arrows in the chest, this will have some effect on you. [He] he has always been a character who moved in a straight line and at right angles. But he is now as agile as them. He can move with the same kind of cunning and ferocious quality that any Na’vi can.
Quaritch isn’t the only guy getting the Na’vi update Avatar: The way of water, it is explained that “RDA has a whole set of Recom, aka Recombinants – avatars embedded with memories of human soldiers.” Producer Jon Landau he goes on to explain the rationale for the RDA in the story, saying:
“They are returning with an army to take back the precious possession they have lost. This time around, they’ve built a whole new city, Bridgehead, and they’re ripping off the resources of Pandora’s oceans – and they’ve got a 3D printing rig that spits out weapons, which means they’re even better equipped this time around. This is the RDA scale.
Lang was fantastic in the first movie and I can’t wait to see him in action again in this sequel.
The film is also the protagonist Zoe Saldana, Sam Worthington, Sigourney Weaver, Curtis cliff, Joel David Moore, CCH Ponder, Edie Falco, Jemaine ClementeAnd Kate Winslet. Avatar: The way of water will be released in theaters on December 14, 2022.
