Creating a timeless series, in full and uncontrolled streaming boom, seemed impossible. But John Hoffman and Steve Martin, with the first season of “Only Murders in the Building”, showed that the magic of the small screen has not yet been fully diluted. Those first 10 episodes, children of the classic mystery and modern madness that yellow podcasts arouse, captured with an unexpected freshness within a genre as banal as it is difficult: comedy. Yes, intriguing is an old and inspiring mission how to make people laugh, but more complicated than keeping the secret is to provoke genuine laughter. Both ingredients of this fictional representation of the most gourmet entertainment, once again boast an unparalleled flavor in a very good season 2 (Apparently in the first six episodes released to the press).

The first episode is so round that vividly remembers the times when the reduced offer was drawn by the hand of that powerful filter that was extinguished with the birth of the platforms. In generalist networks, where there was no room for anything, we could see ‘Only murders in the building’. With a more lucid and hilarious dialogue, if possible and a new beginning with the aftertaste of those first chapters so lucid, the start of the second season is an overall 10. The awkward jokes are subtle and always hit the target, and the resources of this type of proposition are used with both humor and intelligence. Furthermore, with that 2×01, the series acquires freshness not only within its own trajectory, but also in the world of mystery in general, lay foundations that are as familiar as they are suggestive thanks to the introduction of new elements that are more than captivating.
That the Arconia embraces the Cluedo mode, gaining on-screen the relevance it already had in the spirit, is another of those brilliant decisions that pay homage to the essence of the genre. The corners and crevices of the building, whose mystical aura has been cultivated with true mastery, give and promise, as happens with the most exalted creative decisions.. But this novelty is not the only one that works perfectly. The second season of “Only Murders in the Building” he skillfully combined the personal concerns of each member of the detective trio with that luscious touch that supposes that magnifying glass under which they must investigate: this season they have to hunt down the killer while they are being persecuted. Laughter is inevitable when Charles, Oliver and Mabel are about to be caught red-handed in some scenes. They are for the humor of the situation and the expectation they generate, but also for the goal. Sometimes the unexpected transgenerational group is as ridiculous and endearing as they are aware of, a magical serendipity, a televised unicorn.

Martin, Martin Short and Selena Gomez have even more chemistry now that they have established themselves in their dynamic e they are accomplices of the virtues of each one. The comic streak inherent in these performers perfectly envelops each of their characters and, in turn, fits into an infallible mix. All this even taking into account that these little oddities could have become something repetitive and boring in the face of a continuation. On the contrary, the feeling of enjoyment and genuine enjoyment accompanies every aspect of a second case it is perceived with the same freshness as the first thanks also to the fact of having been able to keep the key to success of that season 1, but giving it a twist and adding a new appeal. If Sting as a murder suspect was funny, Amy Schumer taking over from the Arconia star / celebrity is a nod to the need to keep someone well known in that attic, while surprisingly focusing her comedy in other directions.
The same goes for the victim. Tim Kono has taken us into a near past that is closely intertwined with Mabel’s life, and Bunny does the same with a much larger time jump and an equally endearing connection. In the end, the team’s successful effort to replicate without boring stands out., always polishing every detail while actively revisiting everything that made them famous, everything that is loved by the viewers who made “Only Murders in the Building” such a phenomenon. A very large team that accomplishes what much of Hollywood entertainment already wanted: extracting gold from an overcrowded room of writers. In the credits of ‘Persons of Interest’, 2×01, Ben Philippe, Joshua Allen Griffith and Stephen Markley appear as script supervisors and Rachel Burger as screenwriter, a mode of operation that extends to all chapters. Many professionals strive to paddle to one as they take care of every sentence egand they make sure to harness the talent of their performers to paste in some quick tone changes that capture the attention of the public.

A madness without romance
If at ‘Only Murders in the Building’ we put a relationship between two of the protagonists and changed his ‘hunt for the killer’ for a search for the missing leopard, we would have ‘My Girlfriend’s Beast’, up / down. Eight decades after its film boom, Hoffman and Martin recall what outlandish comedy was, a subgenre loaded with ridiculous situations ranging from comedy to film noir.. The protagonists of this series do not even dream of speaking at the speed that Katharine Hepburn used to do, nor do they base their jokes on themes related to love affairs; but transversely They carry in their hearts the roll of those classics designed by and for the escape. You have to show incredible inventiveness to encompass the most captivating genres as popular and widespread as full of unforgettable stories; while the viewer is reminded that what is genuine and full of smiles is not dead.
Note: 10
The best: The intelligence with which he mixes that exhilarating, meta and transgenerational essence of the first season, with fresh and attractive twists.
Worse: Think about your expiration date. I hope there are 10 years of murder left in the Arcony.
