Baz Luhrmann is expanding his AUSTRALIA film into a six-part limited series titled FARAWAY DOWNS for Hulu and Disney +

Baz Luhrmann has finally finished with his epic Elvis biopic, which he had worked on for many years, and which will return to revisit his 2008 romantic and adventure drama, Australiain a new six-part limited series entitled Distant bass. The show will expand the story told in the film and be entirely assembled from the footage for which Luhrmann shot Australia, with a new ending and an updated soundtrack. Luhrmann said that by the time he shot the film, he shot three endings, so this is going to be one of those alternatives.

Luhrmann said in a statement:

“Initially I decided to take the notion of sweeping, Gone With the Windepic style and turn it upside down: a way of using romance and epic drama to shed light on the roles of First Nations people and the painful scar in Australian history of “Stolen Generations”. While Australia the film has a life of its own, there was another telling of this story; one with different levels, shades, and even alternate twists that an episodic format allowed us to explore. Taken from the same material, Distant bass is a new variation on Australia to be discovered by the public “.

Like the movie, Distant bass will tell the story of an English aristocrat, Lady Sarah Ashley (Nicole Kidman) who inherits a large cattle farm in Australia after her husband’s death. When the Australian cattle barons plot to take her land, she joins a cattle herder (Hugh Jackman) to protect his ranch. The story is explored through the eyes of the young Nullah (Brandon Walters), a bi-racial indigenous Australian child involved in the government’s draconian racial policy now referred to as “Stolen Generations”. The trio experience four life-changing years, a love story between Sarah and the herdsman, and the inevitable impact of World War II.

Distant bass is expected for the first time in winter. Are you a fan of Australia?
