Taika Waititi reveals WHAT WE DO IN THE SHADOWS set was built using material stolen from THE HOBBIT

Taika Waititi revealed a hilarious curiosity about his 2014 comedy What we do in the shadows. During a recent interview with Stephen Colbert, the director revealed that the materials used to build his film set in New Zealand were stolen from Peter Jackson’S The Hobbit. He explained:

“When I did What We Do in the Shadows, when Jemaine [Clement, the movie’s co-director, co-writer, and star] and I was shooting it, we didn’t have a lot of money to make that movie and The Hobbit was just finished. And, therefore, our production designer – man, I don’t know if I should say that. Okay, but I will: our production designer, in the middle of the night, took his crew to The Hobbit studios and stole all the dismantled and broken green screens, took all the lumber and we built a house. “

Is fantastic! In case you’re wondering what Jackson thought about it, well, this will be the first time he has heard of it as long as he has watched the interview or reads the Internet. Waititi said:

“I never talked to him [The Hobbit director] Peter Jackson on this. I don’t know if he knows. I like to tell that story at parties. But I don’t know if he really knows. “

What Let’s do it in the shadows it ended up being a great movie and has since been adapted into a hilarious TV series. I guess we can thank The Hobbit film for helping to make the film!
