After “Game of Thrones” premiered at the end of its eighth season, the world thought its story would end there, but far from that fate, the series began expanding its universe with new projects. Now, George RR Martin, the author of the saga on which GOT is based, ‘A Song of Fire and Ice’; confirmed that this is a reality and that in addition to “House of the Dragon” there are four other spin-offs in development.
The rumors that “Game of Thrones” would have several spin-offs in addition to ‘House of the Dragon’ they started from 2020 but it has never been confirmed by any of the original production. However, the picture has now changed and it seems that speculation makes sense after a long period of uncertainty.

In his blog, George RR Martin announced that in addition to waiting for “House of the Dragon”, he is currently working with HBO on the production of four other “Game of Thrones” spin-off series. They were all part of the previous rumors, but are now finally confirmed thanks to the author with their official titles: ‘Snow’,’Then thousands of ships’,’Sea snake’Y’The knight of the hedge’.
- Snow: GOT sequel to Jon Snow with Kit Harington in the lead
- The Thousand Ships: Story of Nymeria, daughter of Oberyn Martell (Pedro Pascal); will be created by Amanda Segel.
- Sea Snake: Also known as “Nine Boyages”; Bruno Heller is responsible for it.
- The Hedge Knight: The story of Dunk & Egg which could also be called ‘Knight of the Seven Kingdoms; Steve Congard will be his writer.
Previously it was said that there would be almost seven spin-offs that “Game of Thrones” would have in development, but for now we can only expect five, counting the prequel to “House of the Dragon” which will arrive on August 21st. to the HBOMax catalog. Although, for now, this confirmation from George RR Martin is one of the few that is known about them.
‘House of the Dragon’ and ‘Snow’, the future of ‘Game of Thrones’
Although already with Five confirmed “Game of Thrones” spin-offs’House of the Dragon’ and ‘Snow’ are the ones that grabbed the audience’s attention the most, as they tackle the story of two of the main characters who conquered the world in GOT.
While ‘House of the Dragon’ will address the history of the Targaryen family, or the ancestors of Daenerys (Emilia Clarke); “Snow” will tell the life of Jon Snow (Kit Harington) after everything that happened in the original “Game of Thrones” series.
The truth is that, despite the confirmation of all these new projects in the “Game of Thrones” universe, it is only “House of the Dragon” that is about to be released; while for the others we will have to wait a little longer for George RR Martin, HBO and everyone involved, little by little, to decide to share something more about it.
