Thanks to IGN, we have several new photos to share with you from upcoming Amazon Prime Video series The Lord of the Rings: The rings of power. These photos offer a first glimpse of the Orcs in the show, and they look quite handsome and gnarled! It is explained that the creators of the series “intend to show creatures more than ever”.

At the end of Tolkien’s First Age, the Orcs were almost decimated to the point of extinction in the War of Wrath. As The Rings of Power takes place in the Second Age, we meet the creatures as they are scattered around Middle-earth. Thousands of years before they become the shocking force that helps level the realms of elves and man, the Orcs are few, unlucky, and fight for survival.

When it comes to the Orcs of the series, Lindsey Weber, executive producer of the series, said: “Well, I love the Orcs. I love creature design, so I’m very happy to talk about these things. JD and Patrick, the showrunners, the first page of their Bible was about the Orcs. They have a real passion for them, they love practical prosthetics and design and felt they needed to be explored as this is the Second Age and thousands of years before the events of the Third Age. It was really important for them to treat them as their culture and explore their world on two legs of their own. “

Weber went on to say, “We spent a lot of time talking about what it would be like to be an Orc in the Second Age. He felt it appropriate that their appearance be different, part of a Second Age, cruder, more savage, closer to where the First ends. It was. When we meet them, they’re not yet organized into armies, they’re a little more scattered and they’re rummaging. So it’s just a different moment in their total history. “

There are also female Orcs that will be introduced to the series and when we talk about it, Jamie Wilsonhead of The rings of powerThe prosthetic department said, “There are some Killer whales that I really loved. But there is one Orc in particular, who is very, very tall and strong, who has a particularly fun fight with one of our Elvin characters that I suspect will, or hopefully, be a fan favorite.

You can read a lot more about the Orcs on IGN, but you can check out some of the images below!

The Lord of the Rings: The rings of power “Brings to screens for the first time ever the heroic legends of the legendary Second Era of Middle-earth history. This epic drama is set thousands of years before the events of JRR Tolkien The Hobbit And The Lord of the Rings, and will take viewers back to an era where great powers were forged, kingdoms rose to glory and fell into ruin, unlikely heroes were tested, hope hung by the thinnest threads, and the greatest villain to ever come out of the pen. by Tolkien threatened to cover the whole world in darkness. Begun in a period of relative peace, the series follows an ensemble cast of characters, both familiar and new, as they face the much-feared resurgence of evil in Middle-earth. From the darkest depths of the Misty Mountains, to the majestic forests of the elven capital Lindon, to the breathtaking island kingdom of Númenor, to the farthest reaches of the map, these kingdoms and characters carve out legacies that will survive long after they’re gone. “
