THE Sonic the Hedgehog the movie franchise was more fun, entertaining, and well-made than anyone expected, especially after that nightmare of an early Sonic draft leaked.
But they literally went back to the drawing board and found what worked. The first three films were a lot of fun and a fourth is in the works, but it’s still a year and a half away from its scheduled release.
No real news has been released about the film, but a new rumor has surfaced that could point us in an interesting direction.
According to scooper Daniel Richtman (via SuperHeroHype), the official title of Sonic the Hedgehog 4 it might end up being Sonic CD. This would be a reference to the 1993 platform game, Sonic the Hedgehog CDwhich introduced time travel as a game mechanic.
This would make sense given that the post-credit scene of Sonic the Hedgehog 3 formally introduced Amy Rose and Metal Sonic to the film series, and the Sonic CD the game was where both characters originally debuted.
Plus, Richtman said it sonic 4 will explore a “darker future,” though no further information is available at this time.
This is just a rumor at this time and should be treated as such, as there has been no official announcement from Paramount Pictures regarding Sonic the Hedgehog 4the plot or title.
Sonic the Hedgehog 4 will be released in theaters on March 19, 2027.
