James Cameron explains why Avatar 4 and 5 are not yet guaranteed

THE Avatar The films were a box office Juggernaut, bringing over $ 5 billion to the first two films. With Avatar: fire and ash Destined to hit cinemas on December 19, Disney is already banking on another massive pay day.

Director James Cameron It is confident that the third film will deliver, but it is not ready to say that the franchise is guaranteed to continue Avatar 4 AND 5.

As it is, Avatar 4 is scheduled for December 21, 2029, with Avatar 5 Following on December 19, 2031. However, Cameron recently explained that those films are not set in stone and can depend on how the next film performs financially.

“The great swing in all this is, let’s make money with avatar 3? I want to say, we will do money. But the question is: what kind of profit margin if necessary

“Or maybe we wait a little until we find out how to reduce costs. Because the production costs have been spiral in recent years, especially in VFX. Everything has increased by a huge amount and is starting to close the type of movie I like to make.”

Cameron continued by saying that there are more forward paths depending on how Fire and ash lands. “

So there is a discussion to take a break and understand it. There is a discussion to get out and make a smaller and more personal film in the meantime, while this is understood.

“There is a discussion, in wild success, for us just launching and simply entering directly [Avatar 4 and 5] And I find a production methodology in which I have some pause where I can make another movie. And there is another discussion that just says to go to make those two damned films and understand everything else when I am 80 years old. “

The director also touched the story itself, revealing it Fire and ash It serves as a natural endpoint before moving to a new arch.

“Two and three really tell a great story, and in the end, if I am so lucky and I do four and five, four and five they tell a great story.

“So he stops for a beat after the end of three. I do not mean that we will necessarily stop in production, but the story stops and then jumps forward over time.”

This is not that Cameron is as doubtful as cautious. Does not want to take it Avatar: fire and ash He will automatically erase the billion of billions of dollars like his predecessors, even if his track record makes it difficult to bet against him. Disney clearly has faith, already blocking the release dates for the next two episodes.

From my point of view, Disney is all in the Avatar franchise. If they were not they would not have built all the Avatar attractions in their themed parks. These films are what feeds those attractions. I’m quite sure that Cameron will be able to tell the whole Avatar Stories he wants.

If Cameron takes a break, he shoots for a smaller movie or barrels in advance Avatar 4 AND 5Pandora’s future still seems promising. For now, fans are not looking forward to Avatar: fire and ash When it opens in cinemas on December 19th.
