Stephen King The season is officially here, and while fans are preparing for HBO IT: Welcome to Derry At the end of this month, there is another adaptation of King that looms on the horizon of which fans are enthusiastic, Edgar Wright’S The man running.
The remake, with the theme Glen Powell, Josh Brolin, Colman DomingoAND Lee PaceIt affects the rooms on November 14 and one of the hottest discussion points is like Wright and co-writer Michael Bacall I decided to manage the notorious final of the book. Spoiler warning: they did not do it.
Fans of the 1982 King novel know that the climax is brutal and unforgettable. The protagonist diverts a plane and the crash against a skyscraper as revenge against the villain, a ending that was already dark but has become particularly disturbing in the post-9/11 world.
From the beginning, Wright knew that the conclusion did not fly (no playful game). In an interview with the film stories, he admitted that he sent the final revised to King himself was one of the most stressful moments to make the film:
“Perhaps the most unnerving day of the entire production was to write to King with an attachment of the script and press Send. Everyone knew it at the beginning [the novel’s ending] It would not have been part of this adaptation exactly in the way. “
Fortunately for Wright, the horror master embraced the change of the ending.
“He also understood before reading him that we would not have ended the book. And when [King] Send an ee -mail, he said: “I was very curious to know how you would face the ending and I think you did an excellent job.” So I was very happy with it. “
That blessing of the King himself should give fans the trust that even if Wright and Bacall have created something new, he still captures the spirit of the novel without leaning against a deeply problematic ending.
The man running It is set in a dystopian future in which desperate competitors offer volunteers to be hunted by the government’s “stalker” on live TV. The only way to win is to survive, and King’s book does not punch when she explores brutal game.
1987 Arnold Schwarzenegger The film notoriously left most of the story of the novel in favor of the Campy action, so Wright’s version aims to be much closer to King’s original vision, without the crashcraper ending.
With just over a month until the release, the anticipation is building. Wright has promised a more faithful and intense adaptation than the version of the 80s and with King’s approval seal, fans can breathe more easily knowing that while the ending can be different, it is still approved by the king.
