James Gunn erases the air on Earth-X politics and in the real life of season 2

Spoiler in sight for those who are not taken Pacifier.

In Pacifier Season 2, Chris Smith discovers that the so-called “best dimension of all time” is actually Earth-X, an alternative reality in which the Nazis are in power and even the American flag transports a swastika instead of stars. That shocking revelation had the fans wondering if James Gunn He wrote this plot thinking about today’s political climate.

Given the story of Gunn in speaking his mind, in particular in 2018, when his critical tweets against the then president Donald Trump re-emerged and led him to be fired by Disney, it is not surprising that some alleged Earth-X could be a direct comment on modern politics. But according to Gunn, this is not the case.

When the variety sat with him, the interviewer noticed that Gunn wrote Pacifier Season 2 before the result of the US presidential elections was known. They asked him how it was “to look at the real world closest to earth x”. Gunn took a break before answering.

“I think I don’t know how to answer the question. Obviously, there are many things in the world I am not happy with. I am not so narcissistic that they think of the world in relation to my television program. I want to say, there are strange things with this show. There were strange things with Superman.”

He continued to make Superman appear as an example.

“Absolutely 100% of that film was written and done before anything between Israel and Palestine happened, and everyone continues to refuse to believe that it is not what it is. It is not. It is not. You can take what you want from that, to mean what you want, but I have not written to be a support for Israel and Palestine.”

To the question if the same was true Pacifier Season 2, Gunn explained that while some parallels are inevitable, its real goal is on connection and human kindness.

“I mean, you will see some things the next episode in which, of course, there are parallels. Lately we have seen more racism, right? Is it because there is more racism or because it is more ok being outdoors? It is probably the latter.

“This is obviously fucking discouraging. And if my stupid television program has something to do with people like, ‘Oh, maybe I should be more aware of my prejudices,’ fantastic.”

“But that’s not what I write the show. I write the show for the emotional angle, just as I wrote Superman to be on kindness. If there was a socio -political aspect of Superman, it is that there was an absence of kindness and understanding and love a human being, regardless of their thoughts or feelings.”

He also doubled the type of narrative that he wants to bring to the DCU.

“Everyone is an anti -hero. Everyone is too fantastic. What are you saying you are not cool? What are you saying you are a good human being for someone? Why is it considered old style and Pollyanna? I want to be Pollyanna. I love that aspect of myself. I believe in the goodness of the human spirit.

“I think many people who are doing things I don’t like, I think they are essentially good people. They only have strange ideas about things and I think we can communicate with those people. Maybe I’m naive, I don’t know, but that’s what they are.”

Next week Pacifier The episode will immerse itself deeper in the earth-X, which means that we are required to see more uncomfortable reflections of our world.

However, Gunn clarified that he is not preparing to make a political declaration. His goal is something much simpler: telling stories about kindness at a time when the world desperately needs it.
