Mark Hamill He played two of the most iconic characters in the history of pop culture: Luke Skywalker and Joker.
While Luke will always be the most associated role of him, his performance as Clown Prince of Crime in Batman: the animated series and subsequent projects such as Batman: The Killing Joke and the Arkham Video games are legendary among fans.
Now, Hamill has opened his time like both characters, whether he would ever return as Gotham’s greatest villain, and because he decided to revisit Luke The Mandalorian.
Speaking with the Hollywood Reporter while promoting The long walkHamill reflected on the unexpected moment in which he obtained the role of Joker.
“It was immediately after announcing that Michael Keaton was chosen as Batman and the fans’s community went crazy: ‘Oh, he is Mr. Mom. He is a comic actor.
“So, even if I really wanted the part, I thought:” If they were crazy for the fact that Mr. Mom is Batman, how will they feel for the fact that Luke Skywalker is the Joker? There is no way to get this! “”
Hamill continued:
“And since I believed it, I was completely calm and relaxed. I let him tear. I left the really arrogant parking:” At the top, try to find a better Joker than that. ”
“People didn’t even believe it was me. They thought it was treated or accelerated or who knows what. But it was a fundamental reason why I got so many interesting roles in the voiceover.”
For decades, Hamill brought chaos to Gotham together Kevin I holdY’s Batman. When Conroy died in 2022, Hamill announced that he had finished playing the Joker. Since then he has not returned, and he doesn’t seem to have scheduled.
“When they asked [about a new project]”Do you want you to do the Joker?” My only question was: “Kevin is Batman doing?” If it is inside, I don’t even have to read it. I don’t know if they tried to get back, but my agent would know. But not as far as you know. “
This seems to close the door on his Joker for now. But when it comes to Luke Skywalker, Hamill returned for a last adventure in The Mandalorian.
Hamill admitted to having “real reserves” on the return to the last Jedi, but it was the will to Harrison Ford AND Carrie Fisher to resume their roles that convinced him.
He also knew how to jump a cameo The force awakens It would have made him, in his words, “the most hated man of nerd-ten”.
While the sequel trilogy had a divisive reception, Hamill found something special in the return for the Mandalorian.
“The reason why I did Mandalorian was that Luke had a beginning and an end. There was no means. It was like making a trilogy on James Bond as a boy who realized for the first time of the secret service and wanted to be part of it.
“The second part was that he trained to be an agent. The third part is gaining the license to kill – The end. No from Russia with love, Dr. No or Goldfinger.”
He added:
“You have never seen Luke like a master Jedi at the height of his powers. He was the most idealistic character of that series. He was someone who would take adversity and double and go back and contrast his setbacks.
“We haven’t seen any of this. So when I had the opportunity, I thought: ‘Damn, it’s wonderful.’ I think Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni, boy, get Star Wars.
So, while Hamill may not slip again into the maniacal laugh of the Joker, he had an extra chance of playing Luke once again and it seems for him, it was more than enough.
