The gloves are turned on and the fists are real in the first trailer for ChristyThe next Biographical Boxing film starring Sydney Sweeney As a pioneering fighter Christy Martin.
The film has just had his world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival, and now fans give a first look at the intense transformation of Sweeney for the role.
Set in the small city of western Virginia, Christy follows Martin’s rise while breaking in the world of boxing dominated by men in the late 1980s. It becomes a global icon, notoriously becoming the first female boxer to land the cover of Sports Illustrated.
But while the trailer makes fun of, Martin’s most brutal battles were not only in the ring. The film dives deeply into his struggles with identity, family and a dangerous relationship with his coach transformed into husband Jim Martin, played by Ben Foster.
The drama did not hold back, promising a raw look to a woman who became a world champion of Super Welter weights and earned the place in the boxing room while fighting the personal demons that almost destroyed her.
The film also presents an stacky cast including Merritt Wever, Katy O’Brian, Ethan Embry, Jess Gabor, Chad Coleman, Bryan Hibbard, Tony CavaleroAND Gilbert Cruz. Directed by David Michôdwhich also co-disclosed the script Mirroh FoulkesThe story is based on an original concept of Katherine Escate.
At TIFF, Sweeney opened on the extreme physical transformation that he suffered to create the story of Christy Martin, including earning 30 pounds to play the role.
“I loved him,” Sweeney said. “I really heard Christy’s power while I turned to me. And I liked being very able to train and work with incredible boxing coaches and weightlifting coaches and nutritionists who helped me to reach the place I was for Christy.”
Christy It is co -produced and distributed by Black Bear and is destined to hit the cinemas on 7 November. With the emotional weight of a true story of losers and I like this type of sporting stories.
