Darren Aronofsky It is not the type of director who interprets him safe. Over the years, he has sculpted a place for himself with emotionally intense and visually arrested films like Black swan, The wrestlerAND Mother!.
Each project is distinct, but often polarizing and none of them seems to pursue traditional approval. That’s why it might surprise a bit of feeling that Aronofsky thinks about his audience, he does not meet.
The director, who is preparing to publish his new criminal Captured to steal With Austin Butlerreflected on the delicate balance between the artistic vision and the connection of the public.
“(Filmmaker) Stuart Rosenberg, my mentor, had a sign on his desk” Where is my audience now? “I think it’s very important for a director to constantly make a film for your audience.
“This is our art form, it is not for a void, it is not for an audience, it is for an audience of people of hope, if not bigger than that. It is so expensive to make films.”
It is a socket founded by a director whose work often floats with the surreal, and while it has never been avoided by large oscillations such as Mother!Notoriously earned a rare cinema, Aronofsky does not oppose a wider audience. In fact, it focuses on me.
Leaving the recent Black swan Release Imax, clearly aware of Aronofsky of the lasting power of theatrical experiences. But if you are trying to draw a common thread through all its work, don’t expect it to take a roadmap.
“I have always tried to challenge myself with new things every time I can. I guess Madonna is a great influence in which you only try to reinvent yourself every time and to be honest in the story that you have to tell and try to understand a new type of cinematographic grammar and try to surprise people.
“I have noticed over the years, people connect them and see themes that cross them, but there is no conscious overlord to think in this. It is more similar, ‘Oh, it is an interesting story.’ I think it seems very funny.
With Captured to stealAronofsky dives into the gritty chaos of New York City of the 90s, adapting Charlie Huston’s 2004 novel. The story follows a former high school baseball star transformed into a bartender who is swept into a wild world of crime, corrupt policemen and a wide supply of stolen money.
Between embracing reinvention and honoring the cinematographic experience for the public all over the world, Aonofsky continues to push the boundaries without losing sight of the people for whom he is making films.
