Wednesday 2 includes an excellent short film by Tim Burton and Netflix shows how it was made

Netflix’s Wednesday Season 2 has an extraordinary sequence of black and white stop-motion directly from the mind of Tim Burton And it was one of the salient points of the series.

Fans of his work will immediately recognize his signed Gothic style, reminiscent of his 1982 short film Vincent and the disturbing beauty of Wedding corpse. Today we have a featurette behind the scenes to watch showing how this sequence has been brought to life.

“I have always loved the vehicle, tactile quality, and it is an important element to tell the story, what it is,” says Burton in the Netflix featurette. “I liked it a lot every day, because it was fun and creative, seeing these puppets come and live, there is something very magical in this.”

The sequence takes place through a story told by Ajax, played by Georgie FarmerSpeaking of a student of the Nevermore Academy with a faded heart. In the desperate attempt to survive, the boy creates a mechanical heart of the clock, just to be destroyed by one of his inventions.

As revealed in the video, the team has spent eight months to build fifteen puppets and ten craft sets for a few minutes on the screen.

“This is the type of show in which we can play with things, and this was special for me,” said Burton. “In fact, he went to the old school with it and I ended up planning the puppet. I remember having done it VincentAND [we tried to go] Back to the first thing I did. … I kept having to tell the animators: ‘No, it seemed too beautiful.

“No, the animation is too smooth. We have to pretend to be back to my student days and do it as I did at the beginning [of my career]. ‘”

Co-showrunner Miles Millar He also praised art and passion behind the short. “All those sets are built by hand, all puppets are manipulated by frame. It is incredibly intensive over time.

“But the attention to detail and the love and care that have been put in every single shot really show on the screen and raises only that episode and that story. I am so proud of it. It is really beautiful.”

Part 1 of Wednesday Season 2 is now streaming on Netflix, with part 2 that will arrive on September 3.
