The God of War series will embrace the emotional tone of the game, even if the showrunner has a lack of game skills

Amazon’s God of war The television adaptation is currently development with Ronald D. Moore At the helm and, although he does not kill the trolls on a PlayStation, he is fully committed to honoring the emotional and mythical nucleus of the franchise.

Moore, known for Battlestar Galactica, For all humanityAND Star Trek: The Next GenerationHe recently opened up to San Diego’s Comic-Con on his approach to the adaptation of the beloved PlayStation series and how the lack of game skills will not prevent him from telling an authentic story. Moore said to ign:

“It was just when I started looking at him, I started looking at the scenes together and there is so much material there, and I really answered the characters.

“I replied to the story of Kratos and his son, and then they started on this epic journey in this world which was finely detailed and really interesting, and there are many interesting fights and monsters along the way.

“But I continued to return to this story of father and son, and it was only emotional and it was different, and I had never seen anything like this before.”

Moore stressed that the series will stick close to the material of origin, with the aim of replicating the emotional weight and the epic scale that has made the Nordic era God of war Game an extraordinary one.

“There is this epic journey, this sincere story of these two men who implement this thing to honor the memory of his wife, the mother of Atreus. So he has this emotional heart, but there is this sense of the story of who Kratos is, this mystery about his past, what he represents, the emotions he is going through.

“So there is a weight, but not so much weight that there is no fun along the way and there is a show and there are many things in progress in this world.”

Moore therefore admitted that he approached the project with fresh eyes and no prejudice for players. “I’m not a player,” he confessed, adding:

“I knew the title, but I didn’t really know what the story was, so I didn’t really know what I would have seen, and I was just brought with it. And so I said, yes, I would like to do it. I think it’s really interesting.”

This does not mean that he has not tried to get around with the material of origin.

“I tried to play it. I keep trying to play it, but I grew up in the arcade era, so I can slam away, give me only a console of defender or a console of asteroids, I will kick you in the ass. But it is only a different thing.

“My family can do it. My wife can play video games. My wife plays Skyrim, but I miss the muscle memory of my thumbs. And so Kratos is fighting the troll, and I am constantly liked, ok, what is the button B? No, I died. It is that type of what. But I try.”

Live-Action God of war The series was announced for the first time in 2022, the result of a collaboration between Amazon Studios, Sony Pictures Television and PlayStation Productions.

The show will follow Kratos and Atreus through the events of the Norse saga, immersing themselves in depth in their relationship and in the mythological chaos they encounter. Two seasons have already been ordered, with the production that should start in 2026. The casting has yet to be revealed.

For now, it is clear that the emotional backbone of the series is in capable hands, even if those hands cannot remember where button B is located.
