Marvel Studios Head Kevin Feige It is on a mission to revitalize the MCU and part of that strategy implies making films smarter, not only larger. A surprising source of inspiration? Gareth Edwards’Science fiction epic The Creator.
In an interview with the deadline, Feige revealed that she met the team behind The Creator To find out how they made such a visually stunning film with a fraction of a typical successful budget. Feige explained:
“The films made in the last two years have been up to a third cheaper than they were before. Deadpool and Wolverine, Captain America, Thunderbolts and Fantastic Four are all significantly cheaper than the films of 2022 and 2023, and they would even have been cheaper if it had not been for the strikes.”
Considering The Creator Cost only $ 80 million but it looked like a show of $ 200 million, Feige clearly sees value in this approach. Edwards and his team have widely shot in Thailand, using environments of the real world and improving them with VFX rather than relying on enormous stage of stage.
This is a clear contrast with the recent MCU releases such as Thunderbolts* AND Captain America: Brave New Worldeach with reported budgets of about $ 180 million.
While Marvel has resized the expense for most of the projects, the study is not being held when it comes to large guns. Forbes reports it Avengers: Doomsday AND Avengers: Secret Wars they are preparing to cost even more Avengers: Infinity War AND Avengers: endgame Combined, films that together have almost reached $ 1 billion in production costs. But with Endgame Earning $ 2.8 billion, Marvel is betting in great that Lightning can hit twice.
Before reaching Multiverse madness, the next great MCU exit is The Fantastic Four: First Stepsinterpreted Pedro Pascal Like Reed Richards, Vanessa Kirby Like his Storm, Joseph Quinn Like Johnny Storm, e Ebon Moss-Bachrach Like Ben Grimm. According to reports, it cost $ 200 million, the film will open Strong with $ 100 million to $ 110 million at national level, according to Deadline.
Feige’s renewed attention on the efficiency of costs and lessons learned from The CreatorIt could be a turning point for Marvel to go on. The question is now whether these slender and smarter productions can rekindle the excitement for the MCU.
