James Gunn It is clearly clear that the new DC universe does not only concern the restart of iconic heroes, it is a matter of completely expanding the scope of the narrative.
During a recent interview with HT City, the Superman The director and CEO of DC Studios has revealed that the new DCU projects are in the process of Korea, Japan and Brazil.
It seems that Gunn and his team are actively building DC stories from other cultures, with international creatives who guide the charge. It is something that could offer a fresh and global perspective to a cinematographic universe that has long been very focused in the United States.
When he was asked for the possibility of bringing an Indian actor to the DCU, Gunn has not just stopped in Casting. He said:
“I’d like to see an Indian actor, but I would also like to have Indian film collaborators.”
He continued, underlining a wider vision for the future of DC:
“We at DC Studios think that there are heroes all over the world on which we could concentrate and filmmakers from all over the world that could tell their stories within the DCU.”
“Who is our Indian superhero and who are Indian filmmakers who want to be part of this universe. It is important for us. We have already started things in Korea, Japan and Brazil, and therefore it would be nice to collaborate some Indians.”
Gunn has not made a name to any specific titles, but this extends with a voice Hunter Films outside South Korea. That project, presumably involving the director of the villain Jung byung-gilIt has been reported for the first time in 2023. Since then no update, but this new statement adds a little fuel to fire.
As for Japanese and Brazilian projects? No character or creators still confirmed, but it is worth noting that DC has some heroes less known from those regions.
Gunn’s approach with the development of international content of the DCU with radical perspectives and presumably less known casts, it may seem like a bet, but in reality I am curious to see what it is and its team is preparing!
