James Gunn’s theory for Superman says he suggests that Kal-El was sent to Earth … to conquer him

A new fan theory is collecting a traction that reinvents Superman not as a terrestrial protector, but as its potential conqueror.

With James Gunn’S Superman Presented to hit the theaters in July 2025, some fans are digging into clues to the trailers and putting together a rather wild possibility … and if Kal-El was not only a refugee from a dying world … but part of a long game of planetary domination?

It all derives from a video published by @Blurayangel on X, which suggests that the film could draw inspiration InvincibleOmni-Man, an apparently noble alien who has actually been sent to soften the land for the acquisition.

The comparison is decidedly interesting, and if Gunn is traveling that road, it would be one of the most daring shots of Superman we saw on the screen. @Blurayangel says:

“Here is the theory that you have probably not heard yet. James Gunn Superman He seems to fight with his identity, his Kryptonian legacy and his human education with the Kents. ”

That emotional tug has been fundamental for Superman’s stories forever, but the theory kicks things.

They continue: “In the trailer, we hear him talk about how he feels, perhaps it is not what he thought was, and his father, Pa Kent, tells him:” Your choices, your actions, this is what makes you what you are “. And if?

It would be radically moved not only how Kal-El sees himself, but also like humanity, and perhaps Lex Luthor, sees it. And it’s exactly where the theory goes later.

The user adds: “Perhaps they go with the Superman: Birthright Comic plot in which Lex clings to the fortress of solitude and the manipula. Perhaps he finds a way to control what Jor-El tells Superman.

“Perhaps this is what this idea that Superman was sent by the Kryptonians to conquer. That the Kryptonians themselves are evil. And the central point of this story, this Superman, is to show that people were not born badly.”

It is not exactly a new idea to make a main manipulator lex, but to combine it with a corrupt message from Jor-El or a history of kryptonian reprogrammed could offer a new way to explore the character’s internal battle. The usual “alien outsider” narrative in a story about free will and nature against nourishment is also reformulated.

At this point, we have no confirmation on how close the film will follow traditional Superman Lore. As far as we know, this theory could be totally out of base. But the idea of Lex who model the beliefs of Superman, or even tampering with the Kryptonian message, seems exactly the type of Meta-Narrative Gunn Twist that Gunn loves.

Until is revealed more, fans will have to continue theorize. But if Gunn’s Superman is really fighting with the possibility that he was destined to conquer the earth … it is a new type of inheritance to be fought.
