Director Duncan Jones’The animated adaptation of Rogue Trooper has been in progress since 2018, but after years of silence, we finally have something tangible on which to ban the eyes, thanks to a new revelation of the Empire magazine.
The first official photos are here and give us a solid look at the gritty and stylized world that Jones built, together with our first glance to the soldier with blue skin itself.
Aneurin Barnard (Doctor Who) leads the accusation as a genetic infantry, Rogue, a genetically engineered soldier in a personal mission for revenge. The Stills also reveal two of the most eccentric bad bad guys: Mr. Brass and Mr. Bland, played by What do we do in the shade duo Jemaine Clement AND Matt Berry.
For fans of the advertising comic of 2000 original, created by Gerry Finley-Day AND Watchmen artist Dave Gibbons In 1981, this project has passed a long time.
The story follows Rogue while hunting the general traitor who betrayed his regiment, accompanied by the conscience of his fallen brothers, who now live in his equipment. It is a dark, strange and emotionally charged vision of war, science fiction and loyalty that feels at home in Jones’s helmsman.
The vocal cast is stacked with recognizable talent. In addition to Barnard, the film presents Hayley Atwell (Captain America) ,, Jack Lowden (Slow horses) ,, Daryl McCormack (Good luck to you, Leo Grande) ,, Reece Shearsmith (Inside n. 9) ,, Diane Morgan (Cunk on earth) ,, Alice Lowe (Black mirror) ,, Asa Butterfield (Sex education), AND Fagiolo Sean (game of Thrones).
Although the complete rupture of the roles has not been revealed, we know that Lowden will vocate Gunnar, McCormack is Helm and Shearsmith plays Bagman. These are the voices of the fallen companions of Rogue, who are now incorporated into his gun, helmet and backpack, respectively. It is a configuration that gives history its unique identity and a good dose of dark irony.
Jones is passionate about this project for years and this first look shows that it has consistency, personality and a sense of scale that fans of the comics will recognize. And while we do not yet have a release date, these first images suggest that we are approaching a battlefield that is worth exploring.
