Spider-Man: The writer of the animated series John Semper Jr. was not invited for Spider-Man ’94 Revival Comic

Marvel recently announced Spider-Man ’94 The Comic series is giving fans exactly what they asked … a continuation of Spider-Man: The Animated SeriesAlmost three decades after his cliffhanger ending.

But there is an evident omission from the awakening that left the old fans to scratch his head, the showrunner and the writer of the series John Semper Jr. He was not invited to be part of it.

Following the official announcement, Semper took X to make the record clear.

“No, I am not involved in this comic and nobody at Marvel approached me to be involved in any way. Matt’s text message was the first I heard of it. The Internet tells me that JM Dematteis is the comic writer, and I have nothing but the utmost respect for him.

“His extraordinary corpus of work over the years both in animation and in the comics speaks alone, and I am sure that this new comic is in big hands. I took it years ago to participate in writing an episode of my series (which worked for 65 episodes) and I really liked working with him.

“Where now he chooses to take the series in terms of history is entirely his decision. But for the record they are not my creative choices, nor do they represent any supervision on my part.”

While the comic is in the hands capable of JM Dematteis and artist Jim ToweIt is difficult not to question the absence of the person who modeled the soul of the original series. Fans could remember that Semper was also decisive in creating what has later evolved in the concept of “spider”, which is something for which it is rarely credited by the company.

“Yes, it would have been nice (some could even say, respectful) if Marvel had contacted me at some point as courtesy. But long ago I abandoned all expectations that Marvel would have recognized any of my contributions to the Marvel-like universe, for example, my creation of what is now known as the” spider “.”

Marvel’s decision echoes to a wider conversation on how studies manage Legacy creators, especially when the loved properties are relived. With X-Men ’97 Earning critical praise for respecting his roots while pushing forward, he is curious to see Spider-Man ’94 Remove without the voice that made the original sing.
