James Gunn says that the film industry is dying because the films are made without finished scripts

James Gunn I recently became candid when diagnostic what is wrong in Hollywood. In a recent interview by Rolling Stone, DC Studios’ co-head explained that the film industry is not dying because people no longer worry about the films, they are dying because too many films are made without a finished script.

“I believe that the reason why the film industry is dying is not due to the people who do not want to see movies. It is not because of the domestic screens that become so good. The number one motif is because people are making films without end of script.”

It might seem like a children’s game, but in the world of successful cinema, especially in the last decade, it has become a common practice for Greenlight and even start production on huge studio films before the script is blocked.

Gunn, who directs Superman And supervising the new DC universe together with Peter Safran, he is not willing to play that game.

He offered an example of the real world revealing that DC Studios recently “killed a project” because the script was unable to reach the right place:

“Everyone wanted to make the film. He was illuminated, ready to leave. The screenplay was not ready. And I couldn’t make a film in which the script was not going well.”

In that case, Gunn pulled the plug. Not because he didn’t want the project to happen, but because he wasn’t ready. This is a rarity in a study system in which deadlines often count more than history.

Gunn explained that DC managed to dodge that bullet so far with his next titles.

“And so far we have been really lucky, because Supergirl’s screenplay was so good from the club. And then the lanterns entered, and the script was so f -king. Clayface, same thing. So good f -king. So we have these screenplays with which we were really lucky or wise in our choices or whatever the combination is.”

Another factor that distinguishes his current situation is that Gunn states that there is no pressure from Warner Bros. Discovery to eliminate a fixed number of DC films or shows only to achieve a financial goal. This type of creative breath is rare in an important study and knows it.

With so many recent successful blocks of successful success and the audience that becomes more selective, Gunn’s position is exactly the thing I have preached for years, so finally someone in the Hollywood machine understands it.

At a time when studies are still chasing cinematographic universes without clear narrative bases, it is pushing a rather simple idea … perhaps it starts with a great script.
