With Superman Heading to cinemas this July and DC Studios that the basis for a new cinematic universe finally end, James Gunn He is looking forward to the rest of the Trinity DC. While both Batman and Wonder Woman are on the document for new solo films in the DCU, Gunn recently explained why the restart of one of them is much less complicated than the other.
During an interview with Rolling Stone, Gunn was asked how the development on the new iterations of DC of his most iconic heroes was asked.
“Batman is incredibly important for DC, as well as Wonder Woman. So outside the things I’m doing in the projects they are actively going, our two priorities are ending our Wonder Woman and our Batman scripts.”
Batman’s new film, The brave and the boldIt was announced at the beginning of 2023 and will introduce a new Caped Crusader together with Damian Wayne. The return of Wonder Woman, on the other hand, has not been officially confirmed until this month, even if behind the scenes, the work has already started.
As a question about the challenges of reinventing these Legacy characters, Gunn said:
“Wonder Woman, I think it is actually easier for me, because there have been not so many infinite portraits of Wonder Woman – certainly not in the films, but really anywhere – that there were Batman. Every single story of Batman has been told.”
Among Bale, Affleck, Pattinson and countless animated shots, Batman’s myth was explored by almost every corner. On the contrary, Wonder Woman has had much less live iterations.
While Gal GadotThe version had a great impact, especially with the first Wonder Woman Film in 2017, the character’s cinematographic journey was relatively short. A third episode was under development before being set aside once Gunn and Peter Safran took on DC Studios.
Although the details are still in compresses, a screenwriter is actively working on Wonder Woman Restart, Gunn is not ready to reveal who he is. Meanwhile, DC is also developing a game of Thrones-Style series set on Themycira, exploring the history of the Amazon island before the birth of Diana. Gunn previously had made fun of a political drama imbued with internal intrigues and conflicts.
For now, both the unusual Wonder Woman and restarts e The brave and the bold remain without date. But it is clear that Gunn sees new opportunities in reporting Diana Prince on the big screen, and it will be interesting to see how he meets.
