Dan Trachtenberg is not slowing down in Predator universe. After shaking the franchise with Prey and following it with animated anthology Predator: Assassin Assassin and the imminent live-action Predator: BadlandsThe director is already making fun of something even more ambitious and that’s not what someone expects.
In a recent interview with the magazine SFX, Trachtenberg revealed that both Assassins AND Badlands They were quick because he couldn’t wait to get to a third secret project:
“After the prey came out and I started thinking about sequel, there were three ideas I had. Killers is one, Badlands is two and the third is something else.
“The reason why I felt possessed to do them and somehow the reason why I crashed – I did two at the same time because I could do, I could multitasking with animation – it was because I was so anxious to get to the third thing.”
That third idea is still under the compresses, but Trachtenberg has clarified one thing: it is not about franchise momentum or corporate obligation, it is about doing something that nobody has ever seen before.
“There are many interesting ideas outside and none of them is just like, ‘Oh, we have to say the next part of this story because it has been successful.’ Everything is like: nobody did it in science fiction.
