James Gunn overturns new details on Ultraman, Metamorpho and Superman’s engineer

James Gunn’S Superman It promises to be a reintroduction full of characters, morally complex and slightly chaotic in the world of Man of Steel.

While Lex Lothor remains the central antagonist of the film, Gunn has recently shared new details on such as characters such as Ultraman, Metamorpho, the engineer and even Eva Teschmacher adapt to the mix.

Let’s start with Ultraman. The fans have gone down their heads for this. Some hypothesized to be a clone of Superman, others guessed a reinvented parasite or even a proto-bizarro.

When Entertainment Weekly asked if Ultraman is the twisted superman version of Lex, Gunn said:

“I think he’s close. Ultraman is a kind of lex offender and is quite powerful.”

Has expanded on the moral gray areas that the film explores:

“There are some characters who are really almost holy, like Superman. There are some characters who are almost quite terrible, like Lex Luthor. But I don’t think Lex is all bad, and I don’t think Superman is all good.

“All those people in the middle, the Guy Gardners and the world Olsens in the world are even more complex in their morality and what they think is fine.”

It seems that this complexity extends to Metamorpho, interpreted by Anthony Carrigan. In the film, Rex Mason can transmute his body in any natural element, including Kryptonite. This is a power that Lex Luthor wants to clearly exploit, even if this means folding the will of Metamorpho.

Carrigan described the struggle that his character has to face:

“You are in a situation in which someone has to hurt, having to be an agent of the villain. And at the same time, there is this struggle to want to be good.

“What the film makes brilliantly is that he puts you in this situation of” Oh! He has no choice. “He must do it and see how painful it is.”

The baby Joey could have something to do with this, a mysterious figure still to be revealed, it could be at the center of how Lex manipulates the metamorpho. As Gunn said in no uncertain terms:

“Lex is connected to everything. There is nothing bad in Metropolis during this film that has no connection with Lex Luthor.”

Then there is Angela Spica, aka the engineer, played by María Gabriela de Faría. A character known for her body enhanced by Nanotech, Angela has a strangely intimate dynamic with Lex. Although it is not openly romantic in the film, De Faría shared his thoughts on what is sipping under the surface:

“I imagined that Lex and Angie had this employment relationship in which they respect each other so much. Angela strongly believes in the idea of Lex to make the world a better place. He practically given his life to Lex for this greater good.

“But at the same time, I feel like there is an element of an underlying relationship between them. It is not in the film … I feel like these guys f ***!”

Insert Eve Teschmacher, the real girl of Lex, played by Sara Sampaio. But not expecting a supercauolo because Teschmacher is more an influencer who eager than a mind. Sampaio said:

“It is very much for herself and for its content. Sometimes she is out of my mind with what is happening or what is appropriate, but has a heart. In the end, everything is so exciting for her. It is only in a completely different world.”

Gunn seems to build a Superman world in which secondary characters also have internal conflicts, rich dynamics and stratified motivations. Metamorpho could eventually lean on heroism. The fate of the engineer remains uncertain, especially with Authority Film now out of the immediate DC Haishness. As for Ultraman … if you attack it will probably depend on who is under that mask.

Superman flies in theaters of 11 July 2025.
