At this point, it is not a secret that The boys‘Homelander is a complete and total monster. He committed war crimes, abandoned the innocent to die in mid -air, laser through the bodies without hesitation and manipulate those who surround him with terrifying ease. Yet … some fans are here that they treat him as if he were the misunderstood protagonist of the show.
Antony StarrThose who interpret the “supe” that drinks the milk, with the complex, does not understand it. During a round table of the weekly entertainment actors, he said:
“We had a lot of guys who threw them down a little [bit] On social media to say “this boy is not the hero of any story”, ”
Its tone is less amused and more worried. It’s not that Starr does not understand the charm of a compelling bad, Homeland is charismatic, terrifying and unpredictable.
But some spectators blocked the lines between appreciating the great acting and actually cheering for the boy. He added:
“They were really glorifying him, they loved him. Which is surreal. What I didn’t expect was that people would have been in conflict around it and, you know, find themselves finding empathy for this monster.”
It is worth remembering The boys It has never been thin on who is homelander. It is the face of uncontrolled power, nationalism has deformed beyond recognition and narcissism wrapped in a cloak.
The show, despite all his blood and satire, screams constantly, “Don’t look at this boy!” But the culture of meme has a way of rewriting the intent and a GIF of homelander perfectly in time can suddenly feel like a microphone fall rather than a red flag.
While the series moves to its explosive ending in season 5, Starr promises the type of chaos that fans have expected, and then some. He said to Collider:
“Every time I think I know what will happen, something else happens, so it was no exception, the latter scripts.
“I have six six deep, I have not yet seen the penultimate and the ending, but I know what happens and I think the fans will be surprised or shocked, depending on their nervous system. But very, very amused.”
So, while we prepare for the end, perhaps it is a good time to remember that Homelander is not an anti -hero. It is not a tragic figure. It is not “misunderstood”. Starr wants you to remember that he is the bad guy in history.
