Mike Flanagan It is still hard at work by developing its adaptation of Stephen KingMagnum Opus The dark tower Series, and according to the director, is taking time because, well … it is so big.
In a recent interview with Comicbook, Flanagan offered a candid update when he was asked about the long -term project:
“It’s not that I put it down. It’s just that the thing is so big, it’s like building a oil tanker. We moved it forward throughout this time.
“It’s alone, it’s so big. He is constantly in processing and it is better that you believe every time you guys you can want to ask, Stephen King is asking me more, and I will not disappoint him.”
Flanagan is 100% engaged in the project and is collaborating directly with the author himself. King even confirmed at the beginning of this year who is actively writing material for the series:
“Everything I can say is that it is happening. I am writing things now, and I think it’s all that I want to say, because the next thing you know, I will arouse a lot of things that I don’t want to lift yet. I am in progress at this moment and to say too much it seems to me a jinx.”
While Flanagan Dark tower It is not yet landed at a streamer or still officially going into production, it is completely outlined. The plan is to make it a series of five seasons that gives the epic eight books saga the breath room it needs.
If there is someone who will be able to do it well, it is Flanagan. His track record with King’s work speaks on his own: Game’s game, Sleep doctorand the next Chuck’s lifewhich will arrive in the cinemas on June 6th. All these projects have shown that it gets the tone, heart and horror that derives from the adaptation of King’s work. It is also developing a new interpretation Carrie.
When Flanagan announced the project for the first time, he said that the pilot script is “one of my favorite things to have ever worked on”. He shared at that moment:
“I wrote a pilot, we consider it as a series that is going at least five seasons. And having lived with this project all the time I have, I have a huge amount in my brain.
“But I have a pilot script of which I am enthusiastic and a very detailed scheme for the first season and a wider scheme for the following seasons.
“I think that in the end, if we are able to do it, there are other writers with whom I want to bend in that process with which I worked before; I think they would be really fabulous for a very small and intimate writers for a room where we can continue to break it.
“I will tell you, more than half of my life, I closed my eyes and I was able to look a lot about this game, I dreamed of this.
“That first shot that comes immediately to the first incredible phrase of the first book, The Gunslinger, I had that image that the little bit in my head has made me since I was a degree. In the end I will have to get out of there, I really need to remove it from the head.
“The pilot screenplay is one of my favorite things on which he ever had the opportunity to work. It was surreal by working on this. So we were paved and grateful that Stephen King trust us with such a business, something so precious for him, and we hope to find the right partners to make it.”
The director was firmly convinced that his adaptation attacks himself as close as possible to the material of origin. In 2022, Flanagan said:
“It looked like books. The way not to do The dark tower it is trying to transform it into something else, to try to do it Star Wars or do it Lord of the Rings.
“It is what it is, what is it is perfect. It is as exciting as all those things and equally engaging. It is a story about a small group of people, all the probability all over the world are against them and gather. As long as it is, it will go well and there will be no dry eye at home.”
I can’t wait to see what he does with this story!
