Imagine F1 with Tom Cruise behind the steering wheel instead of Brad Pitt. That thought alone was enough to be a director Joseph Kosinski and supervisor of the action Graham Kelly Collectively I jump, then laugh, during a recent interview GQ. And not because the cruise is not capable. It is because it is so capable that things could have gone to the side.
Kosinski, who directed Top Gun: Maverick And he is currently a guide F1It was asked how it would have been if Cruise had assumed the main role instead of Pitt. His answer?
“Tom always pushes him to the limit, but at the same time he is super capable and very skilled. Both have a natural talent to drive. But yes, I was able to see Tom maybe scare us a little more.”
You could call it euphemism of the year. Kosinski and producer Jerry Bruckheimer started working on F1 immediately after Top Gun: MaverickBringing several crew members with him, including the Graham Kelly vehicle supervisor, who is not foreign to the chaos cruise brings with him.
Kelly supported Kosinski’s feeling with a gloomy gague, saying:
“We would have had an accident. Tom pushes him to the limit. I really want to say to the limit. This terrifies me. I want to say, I did a lot of” mission: impossible “with Tom and it is the most stressful experience for someone like me who build cars for him, making acrobatics with him.
“While Brad listens and knows his skills, and I think it would be the first to say:” Yes, I will not do it. “
In other words: Brad brings calm; Tom brings chaos and cinematographic magic, of course … but also chaos.
What makes this even more interesting is that Kosinski has almost made a racing movie with both actors much earlier F1 entered together. Years ago, the director had a Ford V Ferrari Project in development with Cruise and Pitt both attached.
They wanted to make their guide (obviously), but the project was never taken off due to budget problems. That film eventually landed in the hands capable of James Mangoldinterpreted Bale Cristiano AND Matt Damon.
So now we have a cruise Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoningwho has just opened a global debut of $ 200 million in franchising and Pitt in F1which affects the rooms on June 27th.
While Cruise needs to be blocked, perhaps it is for the best that this time he is looking at the field. Or at least not actively terrifying the team of acrobatics. But he is working on a day of Thunder sequel, so in the end he will skip in some action for automotive races, and there is no doubt that he will push the limits.
