Years earlier James Gunn was introduced to press the restoration button on the DC cinema universe, Mission: Impossible director Christopher Mcquarrie He had great, exciting and (on his behalf) plans “fucking well” for Superman and Green Lantern.
But despite his vision and his consolidated chemistry with Henry CavillNone of these has ever seen the light of the day. Following the release of Mission: Impossible – Fallout In 2018, Mcquarrie approached Warner Bros. with a shot for Steel man 2An idea that would also connect to a new restart of the green lantern.
At the time, Cavill had just crushed him like FallThe evil of Cia Assassin, August Walker, and the two were anxious to collaborate again.
In a recent conversation with Josh Horowitz, Mcquarrie held his superman cards near his chest:
“I will never say it. I will never say it, but the boy was good. He was fucking good.”
But Mcquarrie left us with a mockery, a peek in what Man of Steel 2 could have been:
“I will tell you, the first 5 minutes of my superman movie were … remember Pixar’s up? [It was] A sequence without dialogues that covered that character.
“[It] It was a set-up, after which you knew exactly what makes Superman Mint and exactly what Superman was most afraid and because Superman made the choices he made. It would have been epic. The film scale would have been absolutely extraordinary. “
Well, I liked to see it. Continued to open up on Green lantern Side of the story, revealing a creative approach that faced one of the greatest challenges of the character … his apparently unlimited power.
“The green lantern was what came to me. The green lantern is hard. The power is … I broke it and it was fun to look at him to learn to use that power and give a defect to that power, so it was not pure invincibility.”
He added:
“The entire concept of green lantern is that the ring must be recharged. It is not a bug, it is a feature. Yes, you have an infinite power, but you only have so much battery life, and that it can end up in Scosti, which, for me, has solved the entire problem of the green lantern. The costume is something else.”
Mcquarrie was not concentrated on flashy clothes or exaggerated CGI. His priority was the character:
“I realized, don’t worry about the costume, worry about the character. How do you give that tension and the stakes? Also, how do you do it with Superman?
“Henry had a vision of this, and suddenly I realized how these two characters had extraordinary similarities, which also allowed an extraordinary conflict and an extraordinary resolution of the universe.”
Unfortunately, Mcquarrie’s ideas have been set aside. Even when Cavill returned briefly like Superman in Black AdamAccording to reports, WB reached again, but the clock had already started ticking from Gunn Superman Restart and that silently closed.
We will never see the Superman flight from Mcquarrie, but it is difficult not to wonder what could have been. With the Mission: Impossible Saga behind him, perhaps one day we will see him jump into the world of superheroes and play in that sandbox.
