I was able to view the HBO documentary in two parts Pee-wee as himself before his release tonight on Max and as a fan for the whole life of Paul Reubens Character, I was anxious to see how it was created and what was happening behind the scenes.
I grew up looking and revised The great adventure of Pee-Weeciting him with my sisters and frame my sense of humor around it. I saw Pee-Wee’s Playhouse and I always played with my Pee-Wee doll. Pee-Wee was the peak of humor and fun.
It was nice to see how this document highlighted Reubens’ education and told the spectators of the children of children he loved, which influenced him when he made his series. He spoke of his time to college and in the land, which allowed him to play and create tons of characters together with some fantastic colleagues that you will surely recognize. Reubens took so many photos and videos throughout his life, it was like having a front row place in his life and career, including the birth and rise of his greatest character, Pee-Wee Herman.
But as with any great ascent, there was also a fall. As a child, I heard about the problem that Paul Reubens had been, but I didn’t know the details and frankly I didn’t care. He did not change the memories that I had done to look at him on the screen, and it seemed to me that he went and went. This documentary did not avoid the scandals that Reubens faced, and was open and honest for his struggles.
It was also fun in his interviews in an eccentric and peaceful way that really made me laugh. The end of the documentary was modeled by the fact that Paul Reubens unexpectedly died of most people, since he had kept his struggle with cancer secret. I knew he was coming, but the video chosen for the doctor’s last moments made me tear.
My husband and I have passed our love for Pee-Wee to our children and the day we learned that Reubens was dead, my daughter said: “I guess Pee-Wee is at her final adventure”. I am happy that his last few months were unconsciously documented and we were able to take a look at his thoughts and memories before he left. This was a special clock for fans and I hope you like it.
Pee-wee as himself Parts 1 and 2 will air on HBO tonight, Friday 23 May, and will therefore be available to watch the max.
