I grew up in an era of Tokusatsu American shows. I’m talking Power Rangers, VR soldiers, Mystic Knights of Tir Na Nog, Big Bad BeetleborgsTo name a few. BOOM! Studios recently mixed two of these with their comic series Power Rangers Prime.
The series is written by Melissa Flores with art of Michael YG And I love it. This article seems a bit embarrassing in terms of times because I have already read Power Rangers Prime #1-6, #7 will be released on June 4th and vol. 1 which includes versions n. 1-4 on June 3.
I think my approach will be to cover the first four numbers mainly, but I could allude to the things that happen in number 5-6. I will also say that anything revealed in the first issue will not fall into the spoiler tag, but the subsequent problems will do so.
The Power Rangers universe is reborn … it’s time for first!
In this electrifying relaunch of the universe of Power Rangers’ universe, five young adults are chosen to inherit incredible powers, suddenly finding themselves in a conflict with a universe with an authoritarian empire, alien monsters and a bad … familiar.
This is a completely original vision Power Rangers And I’m all for this. Many of the characters we follow are original characters such as Mark and Jun, but then there are family faces such as Lauren Shiba and Bulkmeier. So far, I really like how most of the main characters seems to be original, but there are handful of loved characters scattered here and there as a surprise for longtime fans.
It is very important to remember that this is a completely different universe from what we are used to in a series of Power Rangers. Yes, it takes place on Earth, but it is a land with tons of aliens around and the elites arrived on Earth 70 years before the help against another alien invasion and have since colonized the earth. VR soldiers are superheroes that help to stop great problems because Power Rangers are not approved by Elitar, which is what establishes a large part of the conflict in this series.
As you can probably say from that last paragraph, Power Rangers Prime He looks a lot about political struggles such as classism (vs refugee colonizer) and racism (Eltaro vs not incenous), as well as the police states and like the different groups that experience it see the world surrounding them. There is also the classic good against evil, friendship, relationships, etc. As you can say, the Power Rangers will be more a resistance force instead of the heroes of the grandeur we are used to.
I am in love with this story of Flores and the art of YG. So far everything is so well -kept and I highly recommend any Power Rangers fan to collect this. The redesign of some characters and clothes are also very interesting. I mean, just look at the red ranger from the cover of Power Rangers Prime #1! I will definitely do my best to keep up Power Rangers Prime.
Now that we can discuss some spoilers, have fun. Flores and YG have done an excellent job in showing us the struggles of the world in Power Rangers Prime. The elites are a police state and if you comply, then you have nothing to fear and everything seems right. If you are a refugee or different (let’s say a power ranger), then see the cracks in the illusion.
In addition, I really like the dynamics that happen with different characters. The mass is not a little rebellious, but with the appearance of Rita and her who foils him more or less strong in his “idiot”, you can see that he is slowly starting to question the dies.
We have Jun, an Eltarian who is curious and taken among his family/people and who helps Lauren. So you have Mark who is this refugee from Aquitar who is the “weak” boy who sees the negative side of the elaric domain and wants to reject. Orion is basically the best friend to be marked, very loyal and helpful. Let’s not forget Valentina who has the greatest inner struggle to explore.
He has no problems, his boyfriend is the leader of the VR troops, yet he has still reached the currency of power and has become a power ranger. I think that moment has realized that it no longer wants to ignore problems with the world even if it is not yet completely willing to admit it to itself. Of course, I have to touch Lauren.
He gives us his tragic background and his mission, but without his powers he cannot do much. This leads them to have an agreement with the Spacewitch Rita Repulse (I love her redesign) to help free the earth. I am very interested in seeing how this dynamic takes place.
I want to underline my favorite little cameo in the comics. RJ from Jungle Fury It seems to be a kind of guru in a meditation center in the command center entitled your center. I love it. It is so perfect for him.
Another aspect that I appreciate Power Rangers Prime is that the colors are more or less the same as Powers Morphin Power Rangers And the costumes are very reminiscent of that era (even if much fresher), but the spirits or whatever you want to call them are different for the most part. Yes, red is a T-Rex, but black seems to be a snake that probably refers HyperforceBlue one unicorn that could be a call to Mmpr Season 2 and yellow and pink are a little less obvious if not a kind of bird and perhaps a bird of prey.
I really like everything that is set in these first four numbers and honestly, one of my favorite things is Power Rangers Prime #6 As for Mark, but I won’t ruin it. I think that the character’s relationships and identities are really in an excellent place with a lot of space to grow and change and we are only 6 numbers! If you like Power Rangers, I highly recommend reading Power Rangers Prime. This story looks like a more mature story that fans are really interested in consuming from a restart or reimagination.
