While Thunderbolts* continues to precipitate through the theaters, co-screenwriter Eric Pearson He recently revealed that a first draft of the film has almost given fans a direct continuation of the unresolved meat of Yelena Belova with Clint Barton, a thread left pending since then Hawk eye on Disney+.
If you remember, the Set of Post-Credit Scene Black Widow (Florence Pugh) on a collision path with Clint Barton (Jeremy Renner), thanks to a manipulative thrust by Valentina Allegra de Fontaine (Julia Louis -drefus).
Barton essentially blamed for the death of Natasha Romanoff and indicated Yelena as a loaded weapon. Quick progress for Hawk eyeAnd that mission ended in a struggle on the roof and a bomb of emotional truth, with Yelena in the end saving Barton and moving away from the assignment.
But what happened later? According to Pearson, the original screenplay for Thunderbolts* He had an answer.
“The first drafts started with Yelena who faced Valentina to order the success of Clint Barton, who was one of my favorite scenes that in the end did not become completely relevant for the history of Thunderbolts*.”
Pearson says he loved the scene because he showed how much Val can be, which is a trait that fans have seen only in view. In this version, Yelena calls her directly to manipulate her to almost kill her sister’s best friend. And val? It does not deny it. He says in the scene:
“So I heard bad gossip, forgive me for trying to motivate you. But this is your job and asking questions is not part of it.”
That chilling brush of Val would have added a little more consistency to their tense relationship and to the style of leadership boomed by Val. But Pearson explained that the sequence did not adapt to the evolution structure of the film, even if he made an emotional punch.
The exchange would also have been an important turning point for Yelena. According to Pearson, the clash ended with his voice dissatisfaction with the direction of his life and expressing the desire to do something more significant.
While that exact version of the moment did not make the final cut, some concepts survived. In the finished film, Yelena still looks for a change. After accepting a mission, he asks Val something with more visibility, a role “in front of the public”.
Val obliges … but with a cruel turning point as behind the scenes, he is orchestrating a scenario killed or killed for his agents, including Yelena.
