If you kept your step with Andor Season 2, then you know that the series worked at another level, but episode 8 has just pushed it into absolute greatness. It is a masterclass in the storyelling and the construction of the tension.
While this is one of the best episodes of Andor So far and the best TV we have seen on Disney+, Star Wars Fans call him one of the greatest television episodes ever made, point.
The episode dives headlong into the gormic massacre, but never completely depicted, a tragic turning point Star Wars Lore. What begins as a peaceful protest in Tarkin Square intensifies into chaos and massages when an imperial sniper shoots one of its own soldiers, producing justification for the brutal repression of the empire. It is a time when fans found both shocking and masterful.
“That the Empire lit the game by making one of theirs shoot their sniper?” E8 must be one of the best television episodes ever. Period, “wrote another.
Tony GilroyThe creator of the show, the previous one, explained the opportunity they saw in finally interpreting this event on the screen:
“Gorman, it is interesting to note that it is canonical but completely not described. It is a total white blackboard. There is also a bit of confusion for the gormic massacre and what is Gorman massacre? So, was it an opportunity to reconstruct in a truly significant way.”
He added that the impact of this moment extends over a single episode:
“Honestly, it is very expensive to build, so we really want to use it as much as possible, so it transports over five different episodes. I am really confident that the really deep and passionate community of Star Wars will appreciate the way we have straightened that story.”
And straightening it made with heartbreaking precision.
One of the most devastating moments of the episode? Syril Karn’s death (Kyle Ricco), who finally confronts Cassian Andor in the square. Syril, burning with obsession, Andor points, but Cassian does not recognize him.
“Who are you?” Cassian asks, a few moments before Syril is hit in the Rylanz chariot head. The weight of that moment hit the fans hard.
“Andor who says” who you are “and look at the realization on Syril’s face that the ax forgets but the tree never forgets. It was powerful,” wrote a fan.
“Absolutely selling out. I had the feeling that he would go down in the massacre, but not so. Accidents,” said another.
The spectators are putting this episode right next to the sequence of pauses for the prison “One Way Out” of season 1.
“That shit was at the same level as a way out,” said a Reddit user. “In my opinion it is a great praise.” Another viewer summarized their reaction in straightforward terms: “I am still sick in the stomach after seeing it. He will be with me for a long time”.
The Gorman massacre, introduced for the first time in the 90s The Rebel Alliance Sourcebook, was an essential event in the rise of the rebel alliance. The opposition of Mon Mothma to the Empire is rooted in it. But so far it has existed in fragments. Gilroy and his team have finally led to a horrible life.
“Revolutionary movements are happening spontaneously throughout the galaxy. Like those who join it is the stuff of our history,” said Gilroy. “These 12 episodes will take us in the next four years in Rogue One. The complexity of the show, the possibilities of the show: it must be all in.”
