For fans who grew up watching Smallville, Allison Mack It was a family face like the bright and witty Chloe Sullivan, which was always alongside Clark Kent. But after his ten -year race on the series he ended, Mack disappeared from the spotlight, only to re -emerge years later in the most shocking circumstances … as a central figure in the NXIVM sex cult scandal.
In 2018, the FBI arrested Mack and was accused of traffic, conspiracy of sex trafficking, forced conspiracy of work, money laundering, identity fraud and racket.
In the end she declared himself guilty and served two years behind the bars, released in 2023. According to the relationships that Mack later revealed that Mack was deeply involved in the recruitment of members, with statements that even tried to enlist them Smallville co-protagonists.
One of those co-protagonists was Aaron Ashmore who interpreted Jimmy Olsen and Chloe’s love interest on the series. He reflected on the revelations of bombs during an interview with Michael Rosenbaum (Lex Luthor) inside your podcast.
“He was adorable. He was very welcoming and inviting,” Ashmore recalled. “And even his boyfriend Chad [Krowchuk]They would have invited me to hike and things. He was super cool and he is a very, very good actor. “
Ashmore had nothing but praise for Mack’s professionalism, describing it as a “solid” stage companion who made the acting “really easy”. This is part of what made the news on NXIVM so hard.
“Friend, my jaw was on the floor,” he admitted. “I knew Alison really well for those three years. We worked together and nothing in his personality would have led me to believe that all this was possible. It seemed an alternative reality, it seemed like” what are you talking about? “Type scenario.”
Rosenbaum offered his perspective, having learned Nxivm for the first time through a documentary. He stressed how easy it could have been for someone like Mack to be swept away.
“At the beginning, it’s like, ‘Oh, this is a good thing. They are helping people with their trust and finding purposes and all these things.’ And you’re thinking: “Hey, I could use it a little.”
“But then you see where it goes and see what madness – obviously it has become really intense and crazy – and are you like, ‘How does it become? Why can’t something be good? Why does it always have to become something horrible?'”
Ashmore replied thoughtful: “Well, unfortunately, human nature, you know? I think many people are looking for something, they don’t know what it is, and people pretend on this. People have trauma, have families, every sort of sh*t so they are trying to look for answers, and there will always be someone out there that will take advantage of it.”
While just a few Smallville The former students managed to find great success after the end of the series, Mack probably continued to work constantly in the sector and probably had a flourishing presence on the convention circuit. Instead, his career and reputation collapsed in a spectacular way.
Ashmore, meanwhile, has sculpted a solid path, with remarkable roles in shows such as Designated survivor AND Locke & Key. It is a bittersweet reflection for fans of SmallvilleAllison Mack.
